In light of recent posts, I thought it might be helpful to start a thread for people who moved just a little slower than others on SDN. Hopefully we'll be able to figure out the pace most med schools are moving at. 😉

Please post the name of the school to which you applied, the date your application was complete, the date when you received an interview, and how you heard (e-mail vs. snail mail).

It may take a little while before we start getting any movement on the 3rd and 4th ones, but hopefully by Jan, the thread will have lots of good news and hope for all of us.

I'll give an example (this is an example!! I don't have the following interviews)

Columbia: app comp 11/29, interview invite 12/18, snail mail.
Yale: app comp 11/20, interview invite 12/18, e-mail/snal mail.

Coalboy is right, it was a demo. I know Choker has been desperately waiting to hear from Yale (as have I), that's kind of why I started the thread. (Only I don't think I'm going to hear squat before the thin envelope arrives in April. 😡 )

What's the definition of "late"? And do you mean submitted AMCAS, or secondaries, or both, late?

I think August MCATers are all by definition late submitters, because our applications couldn't be considered complete at any AMCAS school until November at the earliest.

I'm thinking that if you submitted AMCAS late, then you must have submitted secondaries late as well. So why don't we go with if your application was complete after Oct. 15, post your info? If you guys think we should go with another date, suggest it.

For the record - submitted October 10th, verified November 1st. All my secondaries are now away. My app is in review at Yale (December 4th). None of the other schools have told me yet what my status is...

OK, I've decided I'm a late submitter because of the August MCAT. I don't know when a lot of my apps were complete, because the schools tended to send me stuff that said "Your app is complete unless you took the August MCAT" and then nothing else until the invite. In the cases of Keck and UWSOM, I just don't remember when the on-line status-check reflected that my app was complete -- but definitely sometime in November.

Hey Dynomite - we kinda picked mid-October as an arbitrary "beginning" of the late submissions. I'm sure there are others like me who are still in the process of turning in secondaries.

We were hoping that by starting in October, we could figure out where med schools are in the process of evaluating applications. The goal is to get a rolling post, whereby people, irrespective of when they submit (after October) let everyone know when they hear back from schools.

Alright - it's 6.30 and I've been up for over 24 hours, so I apologize if I'm not making too much sense right now. I'll revise this post when I get up in oh, about 10 hours. 😱

hey incendiary,

well i was deferred from cornell edp around sept. 30. i IMMEDIATELY filled out the other applications and sent them in, and they were certified complete from oct.15-dec.12 (depending on how long it took them to send me a secondary and how quick they processed it).
with pitt, they sent me an interview before i got their secondary, and with the other schools (n/i columbia) my file was complete a good month before i heard anything.

i dont think it's that straightforward. i know a few people done in sept and early october that are just receiving invites. this isn't a good sign for us, but hope definately isn't over. i mean they have three months of interviewing left and one month of completed apps to get through, so we'll see.

Thanks guys - I have been *really* dumb (and extremely lucky) with regard to the whole med school application process. First I jacked myself by taking the August MCAT... then I held on to the secondaries I got before my scores came in, waiting to see what my chances were before I coughed up the money for secondaries, and finally I waited till the last minute to turn in most of my secondaries (due to both procrastination and financial factors...I sent out a batch of secondaries with every paycheck I brought in... figured it would be pretty embarassing to bounce a check to a prospective med school 😛 ) I am thanking my lucky stars for hearing back from ANY school... now if they would just LET ME IN! 😀
To correct my unknown complete date above, I just checked the Yale status page, according to that my app was "officially" complete on 12/18.

My app was complete December 4, and I haven't heard anything yet. 38-40Q MCAT, 3.82 GPA, so on paper I have a pretty good shot at getting an interview. Or so I thought... Gulp...

Anyway, way to go Jessica! You've given me hope... I wasn't expecting to hear anything until the end of January. And I can completely understand about the waiting for secondaries! I would only be able to send out two or three at a time, and wait for my bank account to recover... 😀
