We are lucky that we can get away with taking the MCAT more than once at most schools. I don't think residencies are as forgiving with the Step1. I think you really only have one chance at this. I don't think many ppl retake their Step1 unless they actually fail it.

You have one chance at the Step 1. For those of us who took the MCAT multiple times, think about how many times it took us to get it right finally. Aren't you afraid of the Step 1? Many of us took 3+ months to study for the MCAT. I don't know if we have that long for the Step 1...I heard we just have the 2nd summer and that's it. It's not like we're going to have time studying for it during the year when we have classes and tests.

What do you guys think?

Not at all. For one thing, EVERYTHING you learn in med school is relevant step material. Although they may not teach to the test, you're going to have a good idea of the material coming on it.

Two, I was a very non-traditional postbacc pre-med, who took mcat before the relevant classes. This time, I'll have the classes (in an environment where there is a 99% pass rate for Step 1).

I may fear STEP eventually, but right now, not so much.
