I am listening to the lectures! They are so long! For those of you whom conquered the five day series, was it worth it?

I haven't taken step 1 yet but i am going through the lectures. The advantage i see is that it is another way for me to get the material, I get sick, to the point of disgust, with looking at books and doing questions. Being able to listen to the lectures is a nice change and he makes some connections that I probably wouldn't have otherwise. Haveing said that I would say that you shouldn't only rely on the lectures.

Peace :luck:

If you are in the post-first year of med school summer vacation period, relax and know that there is absolutely no need to be reading any path over the summer. You will have all of 2nd year to learn it, and that will be more than enough time. Enjoy the last long extended summer vacation that you have. With that said, I also want to say, forget about goljan. When the year starts just read BRS and the path stuff from your curriculum and you will be more than fine. This is my advice.

YES!!! It was so worth it!!
There was so much material that he covered outside and beyond the basic path, and there were so many things he went over that I remember during my board exam, "yes, I remember Goljan talking about this". For some reason his audio lectures just stick. He puts it all together better than any board review book. I listened to all 5 days and I can say that it was totally worth it. Tons of stuff showed up on my exam that he specifically pointed out and said "you just gotta know this".

Do his audio lectures correlate with his text? And furthermore, how would you test yourself as to mastering the audio lectures, it seems as if one would kinda' get side tracked while listenting as it is passive learning--any thoughts?

I also don't know much about Goljan--heard lots about his--planing on getting started for step one--is it good to know his huge text (ive seen people with it) in addition to brs and robbins q book for step 1 path--just trying to get everything together--docsmiles your input will be highly appreciated as you have already taken step one--how did you do on the path section and how relevant was his stuff for boards? Please comment--thanks a lot.

Docsmiles, I would love to know how you did on the path sections also.

I am on my last day of the Goljan lectures. Yes, there are notes that go along with the lectures. I take my test next week. I think Goljan has taught me tons! We will see!

i also used goljan audio lectures. for those who also used them, did you listen to them once or did you go thru them again? i didn't have enough time to listen twice but if anyone did, did you gain much more or was once enough?

I drive home almost every weekend (6 hr round trip) to see my fiance, so I want to get the Goljan lectures to keep me company in the car.

Where are they sold? I did a Google search and it was not so helpful. Are they sold online?

I went through the lectures in the week and a half before my exam and found them to be very useful. He managed to cover most of his pathology review book except for genetics and one other chapter which I can't remember. I was in a state where I just couldn't read much more so it was nice to listen to his audio, plus the way in which he presents it really does end up sticking with you. Also, he gives you a bit of insight into how the examiners think. Instead of listening to the lectures all day maybe spend a few hours each day and just listen to them in the morning or before going to bed when you don't feel like touching a book. Good luck!

i found them very useful

i listened to them twice actually and did quite well on the exam. he makes you think about the way the questions are written and thus how best to prepare for the exam

I know it seems passive, but "papi" helped me out Big Time! Very entertaining but without being full of bs--this guy is one sharp doc!

I think here's a trick that might help if you feel it's too passive: make notes in FA on what he discusses. I think you'll find FA is just distilled Goljan--and I am having a lot of trouble reading that piece of crap.

YES! I DID just DISS the "holy grail of USMLE", First Aid--I think it really sucks as a read! Ha!!
     :luck:

(but yes, I will try to force myself to read it anyway--Step Up is so much more conducive to my visual and auditory [apparently] learning tendencies)

I haven't received my scores yet, took it at the end of June, but I can say this much about his audio lectures. For what it is worth, my Qbank scores were in the 80-90's in Path after going through this audio series. I was scoring in the 60's-70's in Qbank (path) prior to studying. So yes, I think it helped tremendously and hopefully it shows on the real exam as well! I do remember many questions on my USMLE exam that were almost word for word (concept wise) what Goljan was talking about on his audio series. And I can say personally that if I didn't use his audio series I probably would have missed more questions, or at least would have had to guess. So I think it is a worthwhile investment, especially if you really need extra path review like I did. Good luck! 👍
