I am planning on doing questions from UW bank for step 2, but don't know if I should start a few months in advance.

What is important to focus on when doing UW questions, knowing the content and learning the explanations or simply doing the questions? For those who took Step 2 and used UW, how much of UW show up on the actual exam?

I had no questions that were exact duplicates.

That being said, 2-4 weeks of UW is more than enough. Starting a few months in advance isn't necessary. I would do the questions and read the explanations.

4 weeks of UW is more than enough time and is likely overkill if you aren't on any rotation and have that time completely free to study. I wouldn't say that you necessarily need to "learn" the content/explanations, but you should briefly read all the questions and answers especially if you are not doing an in-depth book review of the material so that you can get a good overview of the content. Some of UW showed up on my step 2, but what was more important was that doing so much of UW allowed me to get used to the type, length, and format of the questions.

do them 2-4 weeks before the exam. read the answers for the stuff you got wrong. read answers on sections you're not so good at even if you got questions right. this test is all about stamina and thinking like the usmle. they ask their questions a certain way, they're mostly looking for the next step in management or diagnostics. it takes practice to think like that.
