This may well be a dumb question, but does anyone know if applying for and/or receiving forbearance during residency affects one's credit score?

Obviously missing payments would reflect badly, but I'm just not sure about this? My fiance and I are still trying to figure out if it would be better to file for this, or do the income-based repayment system, and this question popped into my head.

Thanks in advance!

The only thing that will lower your credit score is if you miss payments...forbearance allows you to not pay any payments (by agreement with your lender) so that doesn't count as missing payments and won't hurt your credit score.

Makes sense, I'm just always afraid to assume common sense in financial circumstances. My instinct isn't always right! Thanks, dragonfly.
