Foreign clinical experience

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I think having clinical experience in the US is preferred. Anecdotally, the vast majority of my clinical experience was in another country, and it didn't really come up negatively during the interviews when I applied 4 years ago.

sup yall so basically I was a scribe in my home country and got around 500hrs, this was during covid’s peak. How would it be viewed by adcoms?
Viewed as very little at my school. You need to show that you know what a US doctor's day is like.

It will count for something but you will still need some clinical exposure in the US including clinical volunteering and/or clinical employment, plus shadowing if you want to train to be a doctor in the US. You just might be asked to compare and contrast the health care system in your home country with that of the US and it will be most helpful to have an insider's knowledge of the US system.
