For those looking for a postdoc in forensic evaluation, I wanted to give a shout out to Eastern State Hospital in Williamsburg, VA.

You can view all the details of the postdoc using this link online: Postdoctoral Fellowship (Forensic Psychology) (Restricted position)

I am the current Postdoc Fellow and have been VERY happy with my experience so far. The postdoc centers on completing competency to stand trial, mental status at the time of the offense (insanity), violence risk assessment, the occasional custody evaluation, and some treatment experiences with our unique NGRI treatment program. Specific training opportunities are arranged through UVA - ILPPP to provide a basic factual knowledge of how to conduct these evaluations. Additionally, a weekly forensic seminar is offered which follows the ABFP reading list thoroughly and an optional Case Law Seminar is made available to those interested. There is some flexibility in taking on side testing cases if the postdoc is interested (neuro, cognitive, personality, diagnostic).

Great opportunities and I have grown in my knowledge and practice of forensic psychology immensely in my short time here.

On top of that, the training environment is very collegial and I am treating as an early career psychologist, given freedom to make my decisions moving forward but provided as much or as little consultation as I'd like. My supervisors are all brilliant but friendly and approachable!

Finally, the surrounding area is lovely to live in. Williamsburg, VA is known for Colonial Williamsburg so it's a touristy but suburban area for those with families. For those seeking a city feel, Richmond is a 40 min commute, which is in the opposite side of traffic typically. You get to experience the best of all four seasons in the mild climate.

Feel free to reach out to me (or post here) if you'd like more info. Or email the training directors - they respond fast and are candid in their responses.

Hi! I've heard such great things about this site and am so sad they are no longer offering an internship. This post-doc is definitely on my list in the future! Related to forensic evaluations, I am currently conducting a study about test usage in forensic evaluations and am looking to spread word about my survey and get it distributed as much as possible! I think you would be a great fit for the study and survey completion. If you are able to take it and/or forward it to peers/colleagues at the hospital, that would be great! I am hoping to get a large and diverse sample. See the information below!

Trends in Forensic Assessment Research Survey

You are being invited to participate in a research study by completing an online survey. Please see the link below.

https://novapsy.sjc1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_d7gwkO2FmGYSIaq

The present study aims to assess current and emerging trends in forensic assessment. More specifically, the investigators are interested in obtaining information about what clinical duties forensic evaluators are engaging in, recommended psychological assessment tools, and emerging trends/issues in forensic assessment to inform future training.

The survey will take approximately 30 minutes to complete.

If you have questions, you can contact Brandi Diaz, MA at (616) 848-4361 or [email protected]. You can also contact the faculty supervisor, Dr. Tom Kennedy at (954) 262-5807 or [email protected]. If you have questions about the study but want to talk to someone else who is not a part of the study, you can call the Nova Southeastern University Institutional Review Board (IRB) at (954) 262-5369 or toll free at 1-866-499-0790 or email at [email protected].

The investigators invite you to share the survey link with associates who also conduct forensic evaluations.
