Here's my situation. I have a 5 on Physics C (both exams), Bio, Chem, Calc BC, and Stats. That basically places me out of all science pre-req. except for orgo and biochem.

However, a lot of other people I've talked to tell me to retake those classe, both to review the material and for an easy grade. (I finished all those AP courses in sopho/junior year, so I basically forgot them all).

However, when I checked my university's premed advising, they don't allow us to retake courses with the AP credit. They say that they will send my AP scores along with my transcript, and they say that medical schools will not like that I am retaking all my classes.

So - should I retake those classes or not?

I know of some medical schools that will not accept AP credit, possibly you could tell your advisor that you would like to keep those schools as an option, thus needing to retake the classes. If you really did forget most of the information then it would benefit you most to retake them anyways. Talk to your advisor and see if you can appeal, check out some medical schools you would be interested in and see what their policy is to back up your argument.

Edit: I checked the school I remember having this policy and it says it's "not generally accepted" but that if the applicants home institution accepts the credit then it can be a supplement. I would do what I could to retake if you've forgotten the information, appeal if you need to. Go talk to your advisor and explain your situation.

Personally, if I were in your shoes, I would retake for a) an easy grade and b) for review and c) so med schools won't discriminate against you for using AP credits as prerequisites. However, if you do decide to take the AP credits, some medical schools may require you to higher division courses as a prerequisites. Whatever you choose, good luck! 🙂
