talk about form AG Here, i thought PS was hard, vr was hard, bs was ok

The verbal was sooooo long. Those 10 question passages killed me on the time. I can't believe I have to wait 8 weeks to get my score.

Hmm.....I felt good about this verbal, alot better than I did on AAMC7.

But wtf was up with those rote memorization questions on the BS section?

I felt like the test was designed so that people will use the AAMC materials, and not the prep companies anymore.

On the PS discrete at the end....the acid-base neutralization question....did anyone get an answer that wasn't an answer choice?

i agree. i took cq and there were one passage that has stuff TPR never covered in PS and BS

Kaplan seriously overemphasized calculation-based problems... good thing I took the AAMC PT's in the final four weeks.

I had for AQ and I got an answer that was a magnitude off (if you got the same answer). They might have added the volumes each time but I think that would decrease the final value so i have no idea.

Can't....all acid was neutralized, so there wouldn't be any acid left to neutralize if you added more volume.

I had BG (and I think the same question). My answer was off by a power of 10 from all of the answer choices, but I did it both possible ways (by converting to moles and then back and also by using the volumetric ratios of acid to base) and I got the same answer.

Same here...I'm thinking that AAMC made an error on that question. Maybe they'll throw it away 🙂

same. are we allowed to discuss specific questions here??

Nope.. you're not allowed to discuss specific MCAT questions here. If anyone does this.. please report the post to a mod. We don't want SDN to get in trouble .

I'm hoping for either that or that it was one of those screwy test questions. If the initial concentration was a power of ten lower, the question would have made perfect sense. From the answer choices, you could tell that they were looking for people to mess up with the dilutions.

I noticed while taking the AAMC practice ones (9 in particular) that there were a bunch of typos (ie the writing sample prompt). So maybe the AAMC just sucks at proofreading.

i hope they don't throw it out then since we all got the same answer but just 10x higher so if there is a typo we would have got it right 🙂

I know what you're talking about. My answer was a power of ten bigger. I hope they really messed up.

Also... here's another mess up....on PS, for that one lens on the apparatus, they said "convex" lens! Convex/concave refers to mirrors, while converging/diverging refers to lens. I assumed it was a converging lens....

Yeah don't forget they put experimental test questions in there that don't count.....go celebrate guys 👍 👍 ..........

Yeah, BS ended pretty tough I thought. Same with PS sorta - or maybe I just got tripped up a tad and had to rush - PS is usually my stomping ground and now I think I'll be lucky to pull an 11 there. VR I felt was a total crap shoot. zargh!

I'm with you. I never felt so stupid after an AAMC practice test!

Not quite. Converging/diverging can refer to both mirrors and lenses, and convex/concave can refer to both mirrors and lenses.

am i the only one that thought the BS section was RIDICULOUS?????

Yeah man, wtf was up with that. Rote anatomy memorization....wtf? Give me conceptual questions.

Oh, and one of those orgo passages at the end....was I the only one who spent an abnormally long time on it?

Yeah, the very last passage took me a fair amount of time and contributed quite a bit to the impending doom I'm feeling right now. It didn't have a lot of organic but what it had was kinda rough. I took all the AAMCs and none of em made me feel gut-punched like right now.

I'm with you. The BS was BS. even the stand alone questions were really tough. I usually cruise through the BS section. I actually had to use all the time. Compared to AAMC bio 7, 8, 9, the AG bio section was way harder. at least, in my opinion.

.....I thought PS & VR were not bad at all though.

Thought that about 2/3 of PS and BS were decent sprinkled with some toughies (that killer O-Chem passage toward the back). The Verbal gave me a not so fresh feeling...and I usually do well on Verbal. Don't know...Don't feel like a aced it...don't feel like I bombed it. 😕

In the one question asking about the convex lens, was the image magnified or reduced? I had a hard time working through the equations for this one..

Form AG is definitely representing. I was not aware of how many different forms there were (just look at the threads!!)

Yep, CH was also BS all the way through... too many obscure genetic concepts (barely given a few paragraph's mention in Kaplan's review notes). Although I don't recall PS having any mirror or lens q's. 😀

I had form AG and thought Bio was ridiculous. Anatomy questions common and then to only have Orgo at the end. Every single practice test had a question about the IR for C=0 and OH. Verbal was ok but who knows because its so ambiguous........PS was ok. I just cant get over the BIO + and - rotation. Abosportion vs Conc question. Like who learns this stuff in BIO or ORGO. AAMC should probably sit in Bio 1+2 classrooms or perhaps read the syllabus for these courses. Or admit that Genetics, Physiology, and Microbiology are highly recommended for the MCAT.

Dude I had the same frigging problem, I finished early so I spent like 10 minutes on that problem, wtf was up with that. Any idea of how to do it, let me know.

Lol that -/+ passage on BS was ridiculous lol. I finished bio early, So spent a good 25 minutes on that passage

Biology was absolutely ridiculous! 😱 What the hell is up with all those experiments??? After every passage I expected an easier one, but they were just getting worse and worse.
What happened to the physiology? I hate mice and cancer, friggin' determination of liver and pancreas ... Ugh...
One of the hardest bio sections I've ever seen. Seriously.

What was up with all the Physio? U guys remember them? They are blankin out me now. Maybe between the group we can figure it out.

I dont know if we can talk about it in here. Can we make a chat somewhere else. Maybe AIM I am dlazar21. Were you asking about Gluconeogenesis in the liver...........via pancreas.

wow... that bio section was pretty tough... everyone was complaining at my testing site! I thought verbal was pretty tough as well. It's been such a long day I don't even remember how I felt on PS! lol

Does anyone know how the scaled score is devised? In other words, is each version curved separately?

WOW!! I have never experienced a bio section that difficult.... EVER!! Here is my breakdown...

1. Physical...

Doable, Out of all the sections, i felt it was pretty fair. Took a little extra time than on normal practice tests.

2. Verbal

Had 5 minutes to do the last passage. Never good at verbal anyway.. hoping for a 9 or an 8.

3. Writing

Who cares.

4. Bio.

Again... WOW!!! Very reading comprehension heavy... I felt that outside knowledge was not really needed... which made it even harder. I actually started smiling when I saw that last o-chem passage. It looked like a different language.

Overall:

I just hope that there is a big curve

Anyone remember for that convex lens question, if it magnified or shrank???
I said it shrank, but that was based upon a picture I remembered seing somewhere (so this isnt necessarily correct!)

I thought that PS was fairly easy, may be because it had all the stuff I am really good at. VR was definitely tougher than 7R and 8R. Bio, man I don't know what to say. I don't know what I did in that section. just praying that I get a 8 and I'll be esctatic.

p.s Did anyone know what the heck that last orgo passage was about? I totally guessed all of the answers in that one.

i calculated it to be shrank. my head was screaming shrank. but my heart was beckoning enlarge for some reason. i went with my head 🙂

(i hope its right)
