Is there really a difference between getting into a post-bacc program designed for med school vs. taking the necessary classes as a post-bacc not seeking a degree? I live in Houston and there are no post-bacc programs nearby. Couldn't I just take the classes at UH or University of Houston Clear Lake?

I'm in the same boat as you! From Houston, and really don't want to go elsewhere, unless those big name post-bacc programs really do offer a huge advantage in the med school application process. But still...taking out 40k in loans for freshman/sophomore level classes doesn't sound fun.. Right now, I'm leaning toward re-applying at UH main and taking courses full time over two years.

Depends on the program. Most postbaccs are a waste of time unless they have established linkage like WesternU, VCOM, or NOVA. Just remember graduate level courses are going to hold more weight than undergrad courses, even at upper-level.
