Format of the essay (statement of purpose)

Hello,

I am about to write my Essay (Statement of Purpose) for the dental school. I have some few questions and would highly appreciate if somebody could answer these questions.

1. What should be the approximate length (in words) of the essay?
2. What should be the font and the font size used for the essay?
3. What should be the paragraph and the line spacing?
4. Are there any sites where I can look for these guidelines?

Also, I would really appreciate if someone can send me their essay format (you do not need to retain the content...you can delete the content and fill the space with some junk). All that I am looking for is the format of the essay.

Hi,
Based on how I have done the SOP, I am trying to answer your questions... I hope it is of some help to you...
1. The approximate length (in words) of the essay can be anywhere between 500-1000 words ( try to see that at least it is of one full page length... two pages could be ideal... but again it depends from school to school... some want it only in one page they provide in the application form... some say it can be maximum of two pages length... )
2. I think you can use any font which is decent and the size can be between 10 to 12 (it again depends from school to school ... some say that it should not be less than 10... I think ideal size would be 12 )
3. First paragraph - Introductory paragraph in which you describe briefly about why you chose dentistry as your profession ... you can also very breifly describe about yourself, how you were motivated to take up this profession etc...
Second, Third and Fourth paragraphs - You can write about your dental experience ....
Fifth paragraph - You can write about your achievements in school, dental school etc....
Sixth paragraph - You can write your hobbies, extra curricular activites, other skills which you have other than dentistry ....
Seventh paragraph - You can write why you want to select the particular dental school you are applying to...
Eighth paragraph - You can write your conclusion / summary and in this you can describe why you think you are a good candidate and why you should be admitted into the particular school....
