Forum for Doctoral Students?

I check this forum periodically and have noticed that most if not all the posts day to day are from premed students. There is another forum for those questions. I am just mentioning this because I check the forum to see questions posed by other medical students. Questions such as "Can I get in with a 6" and "Letter of Recommendation help" don't really apply here. I realize it is an open forum and probably won't be moderated for this type of content but it would be beneficial to keep posts in their proper forum. Cross posting across all the forums is another thing altogether I won't get into now.

I doubt whether you're aware of the great chinese saying, "a good teacher is one who's also a good pupil"

I wouldn't hesitate to cross-post a partcular message because I'm sure it'd reach a wider audience.Also Note that when some people don't get replies from their original forum, they choose to post it in another where they may get a reply(I know.It has happened to me twice).

Take it easy on the lads(and lasses)...enjoy the site...thank god it's not as dead as medschool.com's

I agree with the original poster wholeheartedly. The reason these forums are categorized is to allow conversations relevant to med students, premeds, and then an open forum for everyone. I think it's something that should be respected.

While I feel for the premeds that have many questions regarding getting into med school (I have definitely been there myself), I come to this forum to browse and participate in topics that are related to myself as an allopathic medical student. Likewise I will also browse through the open forum and if I feel there are topics that I can comment on, I will not hesitate to do so.

As for lumanyika, I understand your desire to get into medical school. You probably have many frustrations, worries and questions. However, you have to be respectful of other people on this board. Premeds come here to talk about issues relevant to premeds, med students to med student, etc. I think if a premed posts a question in the premed forum and it is not answered, there is nothing wrong with him/her posting in the open forum. However, the "allopathic doctoral student" forum is for issues relevant to allopathic doctoral students. Please respect that. I have no problem giving advice to premeds when I have the time to do so, but sometimes I simply do not have the time, and would rather spend the time that I do have reading about subjects that I, as a medical student, am interested in. I believe that is the purpose of this forum.

Dude, YOU strike me as the type of premed that should do a little soul searching before you continue with the application process...

See how stupid that sounds? I'm guessing that you don't find it to be very accurate, correct? Seriously, you need not judge other people's motivations, intentions or capabilities from one single internet post, which might I add was completely understandable. Relax man, work hard and you will get into medical school. Virtually everyone who really really wants to become a doctor can do so (even if that entails the carribean route). It does you no good to try and find flaws in others that have succeeded, just so you can give support to the idea that you would make a wonderful doctor.

And another thing. I know you have been trained to say things such as it takes compassion, communication skills, knowledge, etc. to become a truly good doctor. Well, that is important stuff for you medical school interviews, but trust me, you will find out if you do in fact go to medical school that there are MANY, MANY excellent physicians that don't exactly fit the mold of a "people person."

I dunno, my bookmark is set on "read today's topics" or somesuch. I read the topics that look interesting and don't pay much attention to what forum they are in. Just seems easier since I check in nearly every day...

(Because of this method, i find cross-posting to be pretty silly, but if you're actually going into each forum separately, I can see the irritation...

I think it is okay for premeds to join the medical student forum category. We were there once as lowly premed students [we are now lowly medical students

]...I do agree with Dr. bigboi...The post should be more relavent to medical school itself and not just getting in, even though it is fun reading some of the premed posts. I know how these students feel. If anybody has any questions about medical school...specialties...residencies...I'll give my perspective if it is helpful.

I see no reason why pre-meds shouldn't post here, too. If we post questions in here about med school, we can get answers from people who've actually been through the process. If we just post questions in the pre-med forum, we usually just get answers from other pre-meds. This is fine, but we might like some help from people actually in medical school.

I post here because premeds can't answer my questions. Same reason my advisor is an attending, instead of a premed. I apologize if this retracts from any med students' experiences. But hey-- I need to get in!
