Hey guys,
Which provisional material you guys using at school. Trim, Jet, integurity, 3M...

I am now using Integurity with flowable composite for my provisional. I know that it is allowed for NERB exam. One thing tough, Integurity is very expensive, with student discount and everything, it runs about $130 to start with. Do you guys know any good provisional material that is cheap for typodont use? Or any tips and tricks to make a good provisional?

When I was taking the NERBs the school offered us coldpak. Some of us opted for Alike because it had better handling and shrinkage properties. If you get a hold of some of the threads that are used in the NERBs, I would add some of those to the acrylic to see how the handling properties change. I use protemp, etc in private practice for routine crowns, but when I want something for a bruxer(i.e. won't shatter), I will use somethink like alike. Also, be careful with temp material like integrity as I personally always found the margins to be more brittle than with something like jet or alike. Good luck!

In the big scheme of things, for NERB's where you'll have a realtive eternity to prep and temp the bridge, any of the self cure acrylics will do quite well. Alike is definately ahead of others like Snap, Jet, etc, due to polishabilty, hardness and handling characteristics. When you place it in some HOT water after the initial set, you can go from mixing to finished set in 6 to 7 minutes. If you spend the cash for an autopolymerizing resin (Integrity (my personal material of choice BTW), Smart Temp, Perfect Temp, Pro Temp etc, you'll save abut 3 or 4 minutes but in the big picture, during boards, have a few minutes to take a breather and relax is probably a good thing.

In the wonderfull world of private practice, where time=$$, saving those few minutes can open up more time in your schedule to see more patients and bill more!! In that sceme of things, the $130ish a tube isn't that big a deal. For now, though consider saving some $$, and use those few extra minutes during the boards to relax and unwind for a minute.
