What do you folks think about Rural FPs doing these procedures? I think that I'm going to go home and be a rural FP, and am REALLY interested in OB and MFM (to the point of seriously considering an OB fellowship as a FP). Should I even mention this to the Attendingd/Residents during my 3rd year clerkship? Are there any ill-feelings or turf battles that I should be aware of? Thanks so much!

Its a great asset to have the OB training in the rural setting, but you must also keep the malpractice and litigation issue in mind as well, since it will more than likely affect your practice.

Good Luck!

This is completely hearsay, but one friend I had who was considering FP with OB training said you had to deliver approximately a baby a week to break even with the malpractice insurance, and I think in some rural areas that can be tough. You might want to ask any FP you meet that does OB how they deal with the insurance issues, etc.

Good luck!!
