There is a small flame war at another thread regarding this topic. I'm not interested in starting the same battle here, but it has peaked my curiosity a bit (even though I'm way too old to be concerned about the topic 🙂 )

I'm curious: why not distinction between Yes, I am a member and Yes, I am not a member like you have set up for the No's?

haha. i thought about that too. but why would you list a fraternity if you are not a member? i guess for the liars out there...

Reset the poll this way:

"Would you list a fraternity or sorority on your AMCAS?"
Yes, and I am apart of a fraternity/sorority
Yes, and I am not apart of a fraternity/sorority
No, ""
No, ""

It simply makes more sense doing it this way.

Well, I was actually more interested in actual applicants, not people who are nowhere near applying. By that measure, either you are a greek or aren't a greek. I'm not really interested in hypothetical situations here.

I'm also interested, via this very unscientific poll, in finding out the percentage of us who are greeks (at least those who feel like answering this poll 🙂 )

that is ridiculous!! "yes, i would list a frat on my AMCAS even tho i never belonged to one."

how can you list something you weren't part of?

Midn is interested in an opinion poll...notice he asked the question "Would you list...". I am more interested in "Did you list..."

His point is valid, it is just a different question.

ahh, it is a past tense versus subjunctive dispute. cool.

Ah I see.

Then the last choice, "No, and I am not a member" is kind of out place 😛. I don't understand why it's there, but then again my thinking has been foggy all day because of New Years Eve.

The issue would easily be solved if did was sub. with would in the title question

But whatever.

I haven't applied yet, but I will be listing my sorority because I transferred after my freshman year, and the srat was my major activity then (I didn't affiliate at my new school). I don't want it to seem like I never left my room and transferred because I was miserable.

Well, all non-greeks can choose that option. Putting that one down lets us see if anyone who is greek felt that listing that on their AMCAS was some sort of risk. So far, only one person may have felt that way. Or, maybe their membership just wasn't that important to them.

I think that the title of my survey isn't so good though. I think it is attracting a higher number of greeks, disproportionate to the actual amount on SDN. Maybe I'm wrong...and the sample size is a bit small though.

Don't wanna beat a dead horse Lshapley, but a good poll would ask first if the person belongs to Greek society or not and then ask if that person would put it on the app

😕 We only get to ask one question with these sdn polls, not two.

You are right, that would be the proper way if I could make this a survey (say when people are at med school orientation), but I'm pretty limited here on SDN.

I know, you tried to fit it under the system
