Does your school provide all students with free dental care in the clinic? I am curious whether this is standard practice around the nation, or if only a few schools offer this benefit to their students.

I know a few schools will provide free dental care for their students so that other students can practice such as fillings and cleanings. We have to consider the health insurance we pay or already have during dental school. Lastly, a lot of dental schools offer discounts or 50% off for more expensive treatments. I'm curious what others have to say for their dental school.

I know UF gives you 50% off for braces. And you can just get your friends to do cleaning for free if a chair is open 😉

When I interview at midwestern, the student said braces (and I assume other procedures) are free for current student.

Nothing is free and no discount for students at MWU-IL. We cannot practice on each other.

It depends on what you get. If a DDS student treats us it's free except for fixed and removable. In our post grad clinics we get 50% off.

At UPenn, they provide healthcare so it is definately cheaper, but not free... I am a D3 so I cannot give you very specific info. I bet a D4 would be able to tell you more about Penn dental for students

Hope this helps!

I find this very interesting. Here at MWU-AZ it has been free for all dental students until just now. They took away free dental treatment in our clinic for D1 and D2 students last week. That got me wondering how common such a benefit is at other schools throughout the nation.

According to current students I've talked to at Michigan, dental care is deeply discounted. Not free though. I think they said that a few types of cosmetic procedures aren't discounted like Invisalign.

I'm looking into ceramic braces myself. Hopefully those have some sort of discount for students.

I think that is better to school provide free dental care, because students can provide care to other students

Someone woke up an old thread, but no. No free work.

I’d say our clinic prices aren’t that much of a discount off of what you’d get with insurance too.

At Oklahoma, x-rays, cleanings and fillings are free. Crowns are lab costs. Resident OS and Perio is full cost. I got an implant and crown placed within the last year. The implant was full price at $900 and the implant crown cost me almost $300 (regular $1125).
