free full length kaplan mcat at my school... useful?

So kaplan is offering a free full-length computer based MCAT at my school in the last week of February. I guess I'm just wondering, is it helpful? I thought it would be, duh, a free practice test... but then wondered what the rationale behind it was for the company.... are these unrealistically difficult or unrealistically scored to encourage people to take their test prep course or anything like that? I may just be thinking too much 🙂

It's probably very difficult. My guess would be that it's similar to their diags. I remember them offering a free test at my school. It's ultimately up to you, but I don't see much of a need. Although I'm against diags in general, when I was in college I didn't take the diag for that reason. I just didn't want to sit through a 4-5 hour test when I could be out having fun or doing pretty much anything else. Are you taking the MCAT soon or starting to study for it? If you aren't, then there really is no reason to take it. If you are, I'm still against diags when you've done zero studying (for my reasoning you could check out the baseline practice test thread further down this page).

Which thread? Do you have the link to that particular thread? Interested in reading your views about the diags and why you are against it.

i always try to take the free ones.. its extra practice.. and its a free test.. so whats wrong with that. I'm taking a free one this Sunday actually.. i just hope its not the same as the free one i took a few months ago.

Hi,

It very well may be (we typically use the same free practice tests from month to month). I would call the center ahead of time, and they should be able to make arrangements for you to take a different one.
