I say that there should be no bans on speech on SDN or closed topics. WHO'S WITH ME!!!! 1ST AMENDMENT BABY, AND I'M ITS MASCOT!

Sorry, I have to disagree on this one. To maintain the professionalism of a pre-med/med board, we need to censor certain topics, IMHO. :)

sometimes the closed topics are because they have been moved to the appropriate forum. sometimes they are closed because the topic is inappropriate and is affecting the community here. SDN is not a public institution nor a guaranteed right. freedom of speech is great. the responsibility is even greater.

I've never been censored and have said some pretty extreme things. Why on earth would you need to worry about this. If you act like a normal, decent, professional human being; you won't be censored.

I VEHEMENTLY DISAGREE! The problem with society is the ostracism of free speech, which leads to ill communication, double talk and trickery. As future physicians, I expect everyone to have that innate professionalism, which will preclude the site from being polluted with nonsensical garbage. I think that it is an offense that there should be a ban on speech from such an intelligent, open-minded, and opinionated group of people that participate on SDN. There should be a greater degree of trust, I believe.

NOW, WHO'S WITH ME? ANYONE?

I want to hear all opinions, no matter how radical.

I don't remember who said it but

Freedom of the press belongs to those who own one.

Start your own pre-med website and you can say anything you damn well please. Let the owners of this one censor anything they would like.

MPP, ure rather pugilistic I see.

Happy birthday nb81. You drunk yet? Go drink! :p

and by the way, there is an SDNer with the name Freeeeedom; I thought this was a PM thread to him!

NOW, WHO'S WITH ME? ANYONE?•••••see now you're changing it. before you said there should be no bans on speach at SDN. now it's based on who's here, sure those who are intelligent, open-minded, and opinionated. that's not true of all the posters, sometimes a jerk will pop up. people only get stuff banned when they become jerks.

What do you want to say that is going to be censored? If you have nothing to say that will be censored, whats the complaint?

Exactly what was done that you disagree with so strongly? Usually, all that happens in pre-allo is that a lot of topics get moved to the lounge, where they are more appropriate...

And, moderation is necessary. And important. I think the moderators have always done a great job of avoiding to get involved unless it is really very inappropriate...

This topic probably belongs in the lounge, but I will leave it for now...

I am totally disappointed. :( I thought this thread was dedicated to Braveheart. Arguably the best movie of all time.

brandonite, I thought YOU were a moderator. Why did your member status change back? :( I liked the intimidating powerful Brandonite.

Your slipping brandonite. Jamier would have moved it to the lounge.

And I don't believe anythign ever really is censored, outside of moving it to the appropriate forum. Heck, WPC can post and Bastahiemes posts arn't deleted. Obviously, there is no censorship.

Oh, and I didn't know there was other forums for a few months. I remember being so pissed at Jamier for locking "pictures of us", only to find out later that it was moved to the lounge.

Sometimes things are sensored even thought the people who sensor them feel the same that we do. You just cannot win with saying how you feel all the time on public message boards. I don't know why but that is how I feel it to be, so you just convince yourself that you're right. Anyway, I'm sorry if this is a really pathetic post but I am drunk right now and I wanted to put in some input. Just my opinion, thanks.

Also, to foxy, I think that the moderators are only labelled as "moderator"'s in the forum that they moderate? Is that correct? I was wondering teh same thing...

FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDOOOOOOOMMMMMMMM

I am a moderator. Just a moderator of the MSTP forum. I can still move posts around here should I choose, I just don't want to intrude into Jaimer's or cobragirl's territory... :)

And I can see the need for moderation. But I think that it should be avoided at all costs - things tend to clear up on their own, and often, the SDN community tends to moderate itself...

With that said, this is headed to the Lounge. I even added a link this time, so that people can still see that the freeeeeeeeedom so coveted in this thread still exists, but it now exists in the Lounge.
