Hi all,

Looking for some advice or opinions with regards to the benefits of taking the time to completely rewrite my personal statement vs. the benefits of just making some minor updates but being able to submit my application earlier. I'll be reapplying to my instate school, which has a secondary application that includes a reapplication essay and an "optional" essay, and also to some schools which I have not previously applied to. I was interviewed and wait listed last year at my state school. I'm also a non-traditional applicant so time working on my application has to come after work and other obligations. Thanks for the help and advice.

how much earlier?

By the time it's written, read by a few individuals who I trust, edited, and re-read I would say realistically 3 weeks to a month.

If the re-write takes you a month, that means you submit middle of july, which then takes another month to verrify, which brings us to middle of August. Then after recieving and writing all your secondaries we're talking about submitting early sept and being complete late sept.

Best bet I would say is to rewrite really fast. Wake up early before work and put in the hours after. Or just submit what you have now, waiting another month doesn't seem like a great plan.

I agree waiting seems bad, unless your PS really sucks. Having it read by people you know and "trust" is also bad because they read into your PS and think it's great because they read into the meaning and know these things already. I don't know you from Sam, but I can tell a good vs bad PS, and I am certainly not going to tell anyone what's in it... Either way unless your PS now is bad, it probably doesn't need to be rewritten
