I need some advice, I am about to start my medical degree in Manchester (UK) - cant wait for uni. A Levels have been such a hard slog and my parents never leave me alone!!! Moving into halls, it will be ace to get some freedom:)

I want to prepare as thoughly as possible - can anyone recommend some decent medical text books for someone just finishing their A levels and about to start at uni? and where to get the medical texts as cheap as possible.

Also i've been looking for some anatomical models as cheap as possible, i've found this site http://www.anatomicalskeletons.co.uk

will i get the quality i need from models that are so cheap. I wanted to get a life-size skeleton (I thought it would be cool to have a skeleton in my room and call him Jake!) but its less than £200, will I be able to use it for my degree? or will it be for nothing better than getting out once a year for haloween?

This forum is for people who haven't started medical school yet, so you might have better luck elsewhere.

BTW, "Osteopathic" in the USA means "Medical/surgical physician (who also learned musculoskeletal and other manipulation techniques)"

To be honest with you I wouldn't waste your time with a skeleton. The hardest stuff in anatomy is all the rest of the tissues that connect to the skeleton rather than the bones themselves. Also I'm sure your school will have some skeletons for you to use. Ours even gave us a "bone box" that we could take home with us and I never used it and still did fine with anything relating to the bones. As far as texts go it all just depends on what subject you're talking about. If you're still talking about anatomy then I would suggest getting your hands on either a copy of Grants or Netter and in addition to one of those I would get a copy of Rohen's Color Atlas of anatomy (it has real pictures for when you cannot be in the lab).

To be honest with you, I have no idea what you just said.
