Hi,
I m a freshly graduated dentist from Pakistan. I graduated in Jan'10 and applied for nbde exam part 1 in march. I need to know when should I appear in this exam ideally, to be able to apply at various dental schools in US in fall 2010?
My application for nbde exam has been accepted, I now need to select a test center via prometric.com. When do you guys recommend I should appear in the exam?? that should give me enough time to prepare for the exam too. Will appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

Hi eeman,

Your question is not very easy. Since now you can take the NBDE exam only once in your life, you have to be very well prepared for the exam before you write it, even if that makes you a bit late for the Application Process because you can apply to the universities again if you have great marks, but God forbid if you get low marks, then you cannot retake the exam again and your chances for Admission become low too.

To be frank, the Application Process has already started now and every day makes you late for that.....but still I would suggest you to concentrate more on your NBDE Exam than Application Process and get good score and it all depends on how well prepared you are and how much preparation you still need.

Take care

thanks bddsgirl 🙂
I am not yet confident about my prep for nbde, still got a lot more to do :S. so considering the fact as you stated earlier that i can only appear in this exam once, its better to appear next year with full prep but the problem is that I have already applied for the exam. They charged $ 250. How long do I have before mt application expires?? ny idea please?

as far as i know, the fee is valid upto a year only.it expires as soon as ur one yr is over and then u have t0 reapply.which means repay the fee.

Hi eeman,

Sept is right. I think you can try to cancel that application, though I am not sure if that is possible and how much refund you can get, but as long as you do not write the test you can apply again and write the test. The best thing is to call them and clarify all your doubts about cancellation and reapplying.

Best of luck for your preparation.

You need like 3months for the part 1. Take 4-5months if you want just to be sure. Even if you apply late if you have a strong application you can still make it (though I am not saying it's gonna be easy). Take as much time as you need to focus on the exam itself as it all rely on it. ANd yes, you graduated just this year, so chill out, even if you lose this addmission cycle, it's still good, just as long as you get a really great result in part 1 which will stick with you for the rest of your life. Good luck.
