Hi this is my update from my hs thread. I now graduated high school with my associates degree. Graduating top 14 in my class with honors . Got accepted to a really affordable univ with my major! That has good research opp. I went from a stressed burned out senior with failing college classes grades to now a degree and diploma all above a 3.0.
God is good this message is for those that doubt themselves but keep going you will make it. Your struggle is only for now or will soon go away, but you have to stick it out to make you a stronger better person!

Cool brag? Why are you posting this advice if you just finished high school and are not going into medicine?

Congrats on finishing HS. I basically did not go to class in highschool, narrowly avoiding truancy court and still somehow graduated (albeit w/ a 2.5). Decided to stop being a hippie and now have a 3.82. My point is highschool is pretty much a joke. College is less easy but definitely not medical school. Your decisions now actually matter. Stay optimistic and work your ass off academically/in your ECs and overcome hurdles w/o your parents hand-holding, then you can talk about adversity and struggle. Godspeed.

Well I'm doing biomedical sciences so it's medicine and science and the human body

I
Yeah thanks I took 20 college classes so I know how it is actually. My parents were a little help but not really. So they are immigrants from the Caribbean so they don't understand the schooling over here. So as the oldest child I was stuck figuring out everything out lol. But it's ok I made it even though I did go through a period of depression which comes and goes.

I know its hard to read tone online, but sincerely congrats on graduating. Not everyone does it, and graduating w/ a degree is a feat (my younger sister also graduated w/ an associate's, so I know it takes work).
You have to realize though that you coming onto a pre-med forum where virtually everyone did graduate high school (a lot of us with honors, a majority w/ AP classes), so saying "hey guys I just graduated high school, here's my inspirational story" is like a medical student going up to a resident and saying "hey I just graduated medical school, if I can overcome struggle so can you." We already have, like to be blunt congrats but we did the same sh**t years ago so it's not all that inspirational.

Also don't confused undergraduate science with a medical school curriculum. Two different ballgames.

Well obviously if you were reading closely this message is for incoming freshman luke me in a similar situation or someone in high school a grade below me. Older people can't relate because they been through their journey and their struggle but it's an encouragement for someone that is going though it now and needs to hear this. Especially coming into a new ballpark where everything is so different.

And the program im in is very special so we're taking a lot of specific science classes a lot that most would take in grad school. For example biology is not allowed to be taken as a credit because it's biomedical sciences it's focuses more on human body and medical aspects.
