Okay so here it is. As many of you know I am a dental hygienist and I have been practicing for 5+ years.

I go to work yesterday and am told that they can not afford to pay me anymore😱. (cash flow problems) and I have been there for a year and a half (that is a long time in hygiene time). So I am let go. I am a early to mid 30's re-applicant (second time applying) and I am honestly thinking of not completing the application cycle.

All of my apps are into the schools, have been since June 20th. The secondaries that I have received have all been filled out and submited within 2 days of receipt.

What a friggin blow to ones self esteem when you are studying for the test of ALL tests and your world is turned upside down by being unemployed. Some would think that is blessing but I am the majority bread winner in the household and at this point life just friggin sucks.

Sorry to be such a downer but I just had to vent a little

Everything happens for a reason.........now u have a huge motivator to do well on the DAT........and because of your vast experience im sure you will excel in dental school, and be able to provide even better for your fam. Relax don’t freak out it will only waist precious study time. Do well and you are set you have already fought half the battle applying.

sorry to hear that bud. But I strongly recommend finishing what you started. You must have already paid for the exam so you might as well take it. I know it might be expensive to fly to schools for interviews, but maybe you can select which interview to attend that you have the best shot of at getting in. I am sure with your experience and maturity they'll highly consider your applications if the numbers matches. What about a loan or maybe some family members can help you out for the time being. What ever it is, I wish you the best of luck man.

Def don't give up on this cycle!!! If anything, you should be more motivated!!!

No cash to finish applying?
doc3232--I have the cash. For now anyways. Being a hygienist I am able to contract (temp work) but not knowing where my money will come from kills me. Because one week I can work five days and the next none.

DentalDorito--Thanks for the condfidence boost. I have been told by numerous dentists that I know and that I have worked with tell me the same thing. I guess being frustrated is just part of the game and it will only make me a better person in the long run.

HoangDDS---thanks for the confidence boost as well. I doubt I will seek the monnetary compensation from family. And loans are, hopefully, being reserved for dental school.

Polar---I doubt that I will give up on this cycle. I have sacrificed and put way to much time, effort and certainly money to let this end now. It's just absolutely frustrating.
