Hi,
I'm new to this forum. I came to US in 2002. I was so enthusiastic that I took the test in just 1 1/2 month preparation with decks and reprints. I thought I would fail but I got a score of 84. I din't get in any schools and last yr after getting g.c got interviewed in uic but din't go thru. I wanted to improve the score so prepared for 4 1/2 of real hard work..covering kaplan review bk,nbde reprints, decks, kaplan q bank, some text books for dental anat. i felt miro and phy was dry. i did dent anat really good. but yesterday i got a score of 83.. i couldn't believe it.. plz suggest me what shd i do..shd i re-evaluate the score...if i need to retake ... which areas shd i concentrate more. I read thru all the forum today and someone has talked abt 2004 pilot test paper... what is that? I'm so broken and down..... it is also so tough to s
tudy with a 2 yr old kid around. plz advice me what shd i do and what could have gone wrong? i took cbt. my toefl is 260 and gpa 3.6

Hi trydent,

Sorry to hear about your endevor. Do not worry about it too much b/c that can bring you down and your scores can follow. A big part of taking the exam is to stay positive and confident.

When did you take your exam?

Also about the Pilot.....Sometimes it may help and other times it may not. The most impt thing is not to expect any repeted q's which are exact but to know which areas are the NBDE people focusing on. That would be the best bet. There is nothing more valuable than knowledge and being able to reason through the questions.

Stay positive b/c you can do it!

Best of luck

Hi kmdds,

Thanks a lot for your reply. I took my exam on aug 9th....cbt. do u think there is diff in written and cbt?

I don't know if this will make u feel better ( I hope it will ) , but the fact is, that I took part 1 FOUR times so far , and on the 7th of Sep I'm going for my 5th try !
So basically if u ever feel down or miserable just remember my case , and u should feel better.
Keep trying , good luck

No problem

The written and the CBT should be similar. Maybe not the exact same q's but the level of difficulty should be similar. The main thing is to learn concepts and the areas which the test makers focus on. I know it is easier said than done but I think it is the best way to go. If we rely on repeted q's then we may be setting ourselves up for a dissapointment. However, go over the released packets b/c it is a great way to test ourselves and means to see which topics are being focused on.

did u mean the nbde reprints as rel packets or are they something else?

Yes I was referring to the NBDE reprint relesed packets are helpful. Also the decks are handy but you will have to know them inside and out. Try to learn everything on the back of those cards.

I tried to send you a PM but I do not see that option for you. If you can send me a PM

I have a 2 and 1/2 years old one, too and I know It's hard for you, but keep trying, don't give up. I'm glad you shared us your unbelivable experience, maybe in this way we can learn from it. I got 88 first time and I was very depressed and I was thinking to take it again, but after this experience I'm not gonna do it . It's sad we have to go through all this and nothing it's guaranteed, it's all a loterie.
This is like gambeling, so please do it again, at least to a 85 where you can have a chance to be accepted somewhere, you'll do it!
Good luck!

hi,
I have a 22 month old one.I know its very tough but I guess we can make it.Take your own time and dont hurry things.Give your next attempt when you think you are fully prepared and confident enough that you can get a good score.Dont worry

thank you adent74 and amdoct and everyone. I feel so much better and not alone doing this. Thanks for taking your time and writing few encouraging words. I very much appreciate this.

hi trydent,
don't give up.start afresh..make a study plan, identify your weakness, get a study buddy and keep the faith.you will surely get through. speaking from personal experience it is very difficult to study with a young child but don't lose hope...nothing is impossible.look up past threads on sdn and gather tips and study aids ...it will work out for you.
"whatever the struggle ,continue the climb;it may be only one step to the summit."
all the best!!

Hi,
I also study with a two year old around me, and I understand it is reay hard. Quite same as you did, I got a suprising score(85) at first attempt in just 1 month preparation with decks and reprints( part of). I wasn't confident with my English and GPA,so I didn't try any school with that score. Then after a year and half preparation( pregnant and second baby keep me even bussier), covering all the decks(front and back) and reprints, refering all the text books (in my mother language)when needed, I felt I would get over 95, but 90 was my final score.Your story relieved me. I would like share my thoughts that don't hurry on the prparation, do it step by step, even that means years. We have adorable children to take care of,and we will not miss their growing if we cannot get into school soon, so,enjoy the parenting time when stay home.

hi trydent i think you are very persuvasive.hang on there.i know you feel depressed.i gave my exams on aug 11th and waiting for my results.when you are depressed try to t6alk with people who were successful with someone whom you know preferably people from your college and whomn you think were mediocre in college and got through the nbde.it really boosts you up in thinking that being mediocre when they can do why not you.as far as i know it is better that you read evrything take ample of time preferably read text books and make your own notes collecting data from all the possible sources of books.it is very essential to read the test papers before making your own notes because it gives you idea on what points to stress.whenever you are reading and the reading material misses a point which you studied in a different text book make a note of it .this will help you in memorising the things.most important thing is make yourself stress free with your baby preferably let someone take care of her during the exam period.when you are preparing think of your kid when you get depressed and think with your hardwork you are going to give bright future for your kid.i hope this will help you.best of luck.

I applied last year to UIC too, I had 81, so I didn't even expect an interview, but you know what, one guy with the same score step 1, 81 got in and he applied just once.
Something not right here, man.
I mean I understand my situation (81) but yours totally I don't get it, I mean you had 84 my friend and UIC accepts someone with 81 ?????
