Ok, I know I'm posting this on the "predental" area instead of the "DAT discussion" area, but it seems like not many people are looking at the later threads right now. Anyone who has used Anki, Latex, and ChemSketch...can you please tell me how to get the files I've saved in ChemSketch over to my Anki deck? Thanks so much in advance, and best of luck to you all! 👍

This is simply the way I do it, I don't know if there is a better way:

In ChemSketch: Once you finish the structure that you want to copy-paste into anki, go to save, and save it as a "GIF bitmaps" file type. This will convert it into a picture that can be copy pasted into anki.

In Anki: go to add a new card to your deck, click on the first part of the card, click on "Add a picture" up in the top right, and go find the gif file that you just created, it should add your structure to the card.

You can get creative with this part. I usually made 3 separate gif files: one with my entire reaction or formula, one with the products removed, and one with the reagents removed (replaced with ???).

For Latex: I used this site: http://www.codecogs.com/latex/eqneditor.php I realized that I was not going to be using the anki software for long enough to learn all the commands available in latex. So i found this cheater site. You use the commands in the top to piece together your formula. Practice messing with the different buttons and creating math formulas and what you click on will appear down below. When you have created the formula to your liking, save the formula as a gif and add it to your anki card just like the chemsketch method.

Hope this helped! Good luck studying for the DAT! :luck:

Hey Matt...I cannot get the pic to show up for some reason. It shows me a tiny piece of paper in the upper left hand corner. Not sure why it's doing this.

When you click on preview in Anki (after copying and pasting as a .gif file, it show a box with a ? in it.

Don't know what I'm doing wrong!

Re-read my instructions, you do not copy-paste the Gif, you have to go up to the top of the card, click like your about to input data, then go up to the "add picture" button, find the gif file you saved, and it should bring it right into the card.

If you have Vista or Windows 7 you can use a program called snipping tool to do this. You have to search for the program, but you can take anything that is pictured on your screen. It automatically copies the image onto your clipboard. All you have to do is paste it in to anki.
