Ive been researching schools in Texas that offer optometry degrees. Theres one accredited school which is the University of Houston. What i was confused about is where do i go right after high school. Many schools have pre-optometry programs so do you have to do a pre program before going to U of H or can you just go straight into the optometry school? i may have it totally twisted but saying its pre optometry usually means you do it before optomoetry school, right? And how many years is it from entering college to being able to start your career?

Please and thank you
Casey

You have to go to college before optometry school. Most schools require a bachelor's, although a couple only require like 90 credits or something. You don't have to declare "pre-optometry" as a major or minor or whatever, you can major in whatever you want. So, 4 years in college and 4 more in optometry school, then a one-year residency if you choose to do one.

this site will help you out. www.opted.org
