Hello all,
I have been fortunate enough to get accepted to my top choice school, however I still have not heard from a number of schools I applied to. I would not wish to attend any more interviews, but I still would like to know if the schools even looked at my application. Rejections are fine with me, I think what bothers me is the thought that if I didn't get accepted to any school - I would be in such stress not knowing. Also, we all spend a lot of money, and believe we should get some sort of response (it has been about 5 months). Just my thoughts. I also understand that perhaps with such a high influx of applications they don't have the time, but still a bit frustrating. What do you think the reason is for this delay? Do you feel that it is justified?

I agree. I have also been accepted this cycle for the Class of 2017, and I still haven't heard anything back from about half the schools I applied to. I think it's safe to assume that they already made up their minds about rejecting us at this point, but they probably will just wait until March or April to formally send a rejection letter.

Also, the number of apps this year for DO is mind boggling, the highest ever! Be thankful every day that we are fortunate enough to have been accepted and have the opportunity to hopefully become great physicians!🙂

I definitely agree, i think at this point it is "game over" for the rest of the schools. I just wonder about the people that did not get accepted, and also haven't heard back. It must be so frustrating. NOVA I believe sent mass rejections out - I think it was very good of them to do. It doesn't take a long time, and at least the people know what is going on!

i understand what you guys are going through, however as a little tip, I would recommend that you work on not sweating the small stuff like this. especially if you wouldn't have gone there anyway. you are going to be a doctor. does it matter if they looked at your application? i only say this because if you start going down that road, med school is going to crush you. there are plenty of big things to worry about later. work on shrugging it off and say, "oh well, moving forward."

I agree. I don't have an acceptance yet, so I'm a bit stressed out, but I'd imagine if I got in somewhere (especially at one of my higher choices), I could care less what schools bothered to mail me a rejection. I went into this expecting to lose money on mostly rejections (I haven't been disappointed), and coming out with just one acceptance would be good enough for me. I should hear 2 post-interview decisions by next week, so hopefully I'll be lucky enough to see whether that's really how I would feel.

Very good point. I guess that's just how it goes.

Good luck!

I think the problem for me was more related to closure. I like being able to line my ducks up in a row with all the results in. The waiting game totally wrecks my system.

They're busy. Yes, I feel it's justified. Think of all our applications like spam in your inbox. Do you reply to all the spam saying "No thanks, I know this is bogus and I don't want to participate"? No, of course not.

Also, why do you even care about the other schools if you've been accepted to your top choice? I've already started to forget what other schools I've applied to and not heard from.

I never heard from 1 school before withdrawing. I never think back "I wonder if they would have invited me for an interview." I just don't care because I wouldn't have gone there over my other acceptances anyway.

Good luck!

Thanks!

As far as the rest of your apps go, if they won't change your mind on where you'll end up, just withdraw from them. It only makes sense to keep your app open there if it would change your mind. Its not like you are going to look back and say, I got into x number of med schools, its more like you will look back and say I got into my top choice med school. Also, withdrawing your app might give someone else *cough**cough* me *cough**cough* a shot at that school.

If you can't keep up with the volume, up your standards for metrics. Just my personal view. Seems inevitable anyway; why wait?
