Frustrating to explain

I started receiving posters/letters from podiatry school lately and my family is starting to look at me as suspect. They think I want to do it all, osteo (bone) and foot . I just finished explaining osteopathic medicine to them, now I have to explain why I am receiving mails from podiatry when I only appied D.O .

They just like to spam. I remember getting Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine brochures in the mail and having to explain those. Even then I had to look it up before I could even give them an answer. It was like the first time I had heard about it.

I have been getting those DPM letters as well.....I thought it was just me and they bought the list from MCAT for those that had lower MCAT scores (like mine......... ;)

Funny. I was born and raised in Erie PA. I can remember my grandmother (now 86) sayiong she would never go to one of those DOs and how the two bigger local hospitals only had MDs when I was young and there was a stigma with the DO vs. MD thing.

Since LECOM started in 1992, the line has vanished here. No one even gives it another thought. I swear the ratio has to be 50-50 here. I am a pharmaceutical rep for now and even the docs I call on are as much DO as MD. Some even practice together.

I actually forget that some areas are not like this and there is still (no pun intended) a perceived difference.

Overall, it is like anything else.....with exposure and education by everyone they will see that DOs have all the privilages plus OMM

I got this same exact thing from my grandma. In my research it seems that AMA did not allow MD's to practice with DO's, and that was why DO's had their own hospitals.

I do believe there will be a time where there is no societal difference between the two. This has positive and negative ramifications. If there is no difference, what is the necessity of having both?

I explain it that we're like porn stars. All porn stars pretty much do the same thing, but a few of them also do DVDA, which is like OMM.

“One must not be a blacksmith only, and only able to hit large bones and muscles with a heavy hammer, but one must be able to use the most delicate instruments of the silversmith in adjusting the deranged, displaced bones, nerves, muscles, and remove all obstructions, and thereby set the machinery of life moving. To do this is to be an osteopath.” A. T. Still

“The fascia is the place to look for the cause of disease and the place to consult and begin the action of remedies in all diseases." A.T. Still

"If you are sick, that means you are not healthy." A.T. Still

"OMM is like DVDA, it's the D.O. difference!" A.T. Still

Some of you will appreciate that more than others I know. Decided to take the high road on this one, asking if DVDA was some kind of DNP knock off seemed too easy.
