Hello hello! I was wondering if anyone's been able to get some doctor shadowing done while also having a 9-5 full-time job, since most doctors have their clinical hours during those same times? I have shadowing hours (-40 hours total) but those were from ~3 years ago and I would really like to get a few more done before I apply next year. Thanks for any advice y'all can give!

You can try to shadow physicians who work in after-hours clinics or who work during the weekends. Urgent care clinics, community health centers, and local hospitals would be good places to start

Emergency rooms on weekends is also an option.

Saturday mornings in an outpatient family medicine clinic would be your best bet. You could try scribing 1 day per week so that you get paid (albeit peanuts) for your time. In my area, this would be possible because they are desperate for scribes. In Chicago, eh, not so much. As a scribe it's easier for the physician to justify having someone other than themselves in the room.

Thanks for the advice everyone! Will definitely look more into urgent care clinics and outpatient clinics. I live in Boston, so there's a lot of doctors but it's hard to get shadowing because of hospital restrictions. And I've seriously considered scribing, but the time commitment required for it in my area seems a little too steep. Also, a lot of the opportunities are at places that require a car to get to, and I can't really afford to purchase a car right now :/
