hey guys,

pretty new to this whole forum thing. but so far its been incredibly useful. maybe someone could help me out here:

i have a few questions about the nyu application....no nice boxes to fill in with super anal instructions. good, but also not so good!
and i think their instructions file is missing pages...anyone else notice this?

(1) i'm confused about how to list ap classes (just right along with the mess of other courses?). i used ap bio credit to take some upper level bio courses but am unsure which to put as fulfilling their *bio requirement*. i don't have a grade for those ap classes...just credit!

(2) as for extracurriculars....i'm guessing a copy of my resume won't suffice...have you guys tended to stick with amcas format/style for this section as well?

i feel kinda at a loss here so any comments would be very much appreciated. thanks!

🙂

argh. forgot the main question that i wanted to ask.

so there are only 2 spaces for each required course (english, chem, phys, orgo, bio). but there are four grades - one per semester plus one lab per semester!!

so maybe we don't need to list labs here? or they want us to combine the year's worth of coursework in one line and put both grades together? of maybe i'm just missing something completely...

whew. 😱
this kinda stinks but thanks for helping...

The instructions say to add additional pages if necessary. My school's on the quarter system, so there was no way all my classes fit on that little chart; so I just created a table in word in the same format as the one on the application and added the rest of my classes, my AP credits, and what I'm going to take next year on there. I also added my extracurriculars on this page.

Hope that helps!

if you have a ton of classes, USE EXTRA PAGES.

I didn't, and it was a hell to work with. those fields are damn annoying, they exert so much control over what you can/can not type/copy/paste.

While there are two/three li nes, you can p ress enter in those fields, and li st as many classes as you want. But, if they accept seperate pages, believe me it will make life easy on your part.

Try and be consistent with their format as possible.

Yes, i basically sent the description of amcas activities, except tidied it up a bit.

I used my amcas essay, but added why i like NYU in the conclusion (it was appropriate in my essay there, it may be appropriate in your essay elsewhere or nowhere)

If you're unsure, just indicate which classes are AP with asteriks or something.

How much space are you using for your essay? I'm having trouble downloading the one on the net so I asked them to send me the app. I have like a paragraph space on the hard copy app, but apparently the one on the net has 1 page for essay space? Is the essay restricted to one page?

i called nyu admissions cuz i have classes that do not necessarily fall under sciences and humanities

and i was wondering if i could add my graduate science courses to the science section

the woman told me that they just do this to make sure you have required courses finished
that the ones that they look at are only the bio, chem, english, physics requirements

and that they have your transcript, so it is not necessary to write out ALL COURSES

dont i think you dont have to get too anal about these

hope she's not BSing me though

i had another question on the NYU app. I just finished putting together my extracurricular section and i decided to take out the information about the contact person for each activity since i didn't think it was necessary.......what do you guys think about this and what are you guys doing for the extracurriculars section....

thanks to everyone for input!

it seems like as long as you stick with the same basic format and include all information, you're free to fiddle with it as you like - i called today and that was what i was told. add extra pages/lines/charts....etc. also AP credit seems to be fine to fulfill the basic asterisked courses as long as you also took upper level college courses.

for extracurriculars, i did mention the supervisor or person of contact but within paragraph format instead of amcas format...this also seems fairly open ended.
