Funding post-doc research??

I will be spending the next 1-2 years pursuing post-doc research prior to residency. I will be getting payed, but it is not enough to cover all living expenses.

What type of loan would you recommend for someone doing post-doc research? Will I be eligible for Stafford loans or will they have to be private? Thanks!
