Seriously.

I've still got a little bit of love handle left from my knee injury in December. That pisses me off, because last season, I was like 7% body fat. Other than that, I am looking okay. Now that I am in my offseason, I am back to base-training, and I will be lifting weights again. Then I want to do 5-6 more races before school starts.

The thought of going shirtless into OMM lab, particularly as a kinesiology-degree-holder, a flabby mess, does not sit well with me. It also does not set a very good example. So I will be working hard to make myself totally buff for med school.

I know it sounds silly, but I know that it is at least in the back of your minds.

I know exactly what you mean. I am right there with you!

Not in the back of my mind even a little bit. I'm about 15 pounds overweight, I have been ever since I had my daughter about 12 years ago. If my extra 15 pounds of fat is the worst thing that future DO's have to see then good for them! 😉

And before you go saying what about self-respect, I lost a lot of that when I did a number 2 in front of an entire room of people when I gave birth.

Seriously, I have too much else to worry about in my life than being a little nervous about such things. 😉 Of course I really don't have much modesty left either, so being topless (with or without bra) doesn't phase me even a little.

Yes, would you like to be my personal trainer? 😀 But honestly after having two kids I'm really really not as healthy as I should be. I joined Weight Watchers in August and I've lost 15 pounds so far. It's not actually for OMM but it sure would help.

In the beginning of the semester at DMU we do a "personal wellness profile" where they measure our lipids and physical dimensions. Lets just say the wifey got ahold of the final report and cut red meat from my diet.

TexasT -

Are you kidding me? The fact that you're a personal trainer and half-ironman...you're worried about going shirtless.

I guess I need to buff up a bit. I did well my first three years in college, then senior year I gained about 20 pounds...blah. Especially if I movie to Florida...I'm gonna need a bathing suit body.

I think everybody drops a deuce when they give birth. I asked my mom if she did when she had me, and she said yes.

A really funny story... this girl I used to date is a big runner. She has run many marathons, including Boston, and she will probably do a sub-3-hour marathon soon. She is also extremely hot, and feminine. But sometimes she will do something totally awesome...

About to run the Austin Marathon last year, she realizes that she has to drop a deuce. Her wave is about to start, and she has no time to find a port-a-potty, so she finds a bush instead...

I don't have chisel muscles as you TT but in shape from daily jogging. I am ready for OMM lab but need an acceptance letter first.

I'm overweight, but took a gym class the last semester of my senior year and it ended up being one of the best things that ever happened to me. I lost about 25 pounds in one half of a semester due to the exercise and cutting back on junk food. I felt great!

Since ending school I have put on some of the poundage again, but now that I'm accepted and don't have too much to do once interviews are over I plan on running again. That'll give me quite a bit of time to get back in shape, and I want to keep it up at med school (which looks doable since every place seems to have an athletic facility!)

Actually, I'd be somewhat be somewhat ashamed for the exact opposite reason of everyone else in this thread so far; scrawny. Like, real scrawny. 6'2" and about 160 pounds. Still, that's better than I was barely 150 last winter. On a more positive note, everyone will want to be my partner; very easy to see my muscles (or lack thereof?) and ribs, etc. Should make it much easier to learn on me!

I might get some liposuction.

I knew it wouldnt be long for the OMM lab workout thread to get going. LOL. I am VEEERY fortunate in this area because I am STILL at the stage of my life where I can eat anything and everything and still more or less be the same weight. I may feel fat, but Im far from it. I guess I might do some situps or something and start to lift more weights in order to get cut up. 😎 Great, now everyone is going to hate me on SDN.

Worked in a labor and delivery department for 3-4 months ... I think it's something like 80% do, and it is the partial reason for the only ice chips rule (along with other more obvious reaons). It is not a pretty site ... not at all.

I'll be your OMM partner if you don't mind a bit of pudge.

No obstetrics for me!

Do guys have to go shirtless in OMM lab? 😱 **sigh of sadness** Not so much the tummy I'm worried about (OK, a little), but my tattoos. Nothing inappropriate, just lots of ink. I wasn't worried about this as they are all covered easily by scrubs, so I just hope I get an instructor that's cool with it.

I have a tribal armband, which is the stupidest tattoo ever. Yes, I was drunk. If I can do it, so can you.

Well, it will be more realistic to have flabby bodies to practice on! Have you seen people lately?! I was at a not-so-healthy hot dog joint the other day with my husband and took a minute to look around while we were eating, and I swear there were only two other people in the place that were not obese! It's going to be a regular part of our work to have to palpate thru a thick layer of subcutaneous fat. So, maybe I won't feel so bad if I keep on this last 20 post-pregnancy lbs!

hitting the gym 4-5x/week and not planning on stopping. though i'm convinced i'll never be nearly as svelte as the OP. Balkan blood, we're either tall/skinny or short/stocky -- i'm the latter.

Don't forget Mirko CroCop: 6'3" (roughly?) 225 pounds. Guys a beast.

Do I need to stay like this, or should I pick up some flab? Im serious, all I need is some long hair and lose my chest hair and thats me.... 🙂

Well I am sadly underweight so I am normally the one used by the Professor to point out muscles, joints and bones because you can see it all on me....my future classmates you will be lucky to have me, a live specimen!

Definitely plan on it. I've been trying for a while, then I go back, then I try again. I just need to commit. I think having to disrobe in OMM will do it for me. Thank god I have atleast a year and a half til I would matriculate.

I feel like I'd be fine if I just stay the way I am, but if everyone is getting into shape, then i'll look bad! Oh well, i'll just keep dancing until its time to start school and hope that keeps me in shape!

I think it will be good to see all kinds of body types in lab. Hairy, tatted, fat, skinny, etc. Hairy is still a problem for me....tryin' to get over it, but ugh.

As for the question at hand:

Hell yeah I plan to work out and lose those last 5 lbs. Can't stand my body right now.
OP, come the f--- on! Fat to you is not everyone else's version, I'm sure you're still a machine.

Necessary to do this for OMM labs?

I have a 2-pack....working on the 6....😀 Man its hard dieting and exercising all the time....

it's nice to see I wasn't the only one obsessing over this! I'm not fat, but there are definitely areas that are softer to touch =)

I hope I keep it up with the exercising... mannn esp for the schools where they want girls to wear sports bras for OMM... ummm yeah, gotta feel comfortable!

oh and funny story... at my Nova interview (All of u who were there can vouch for this..), a guy on my panel definitely asked if I was on a diet!! He asked everyone that! He didn't follow it up with anything either.... I just kind of akwardly said "uhh... no but I try to exercise.. uhh." haha it was so weird. He asked another girl, and I think his point was.. how can we preach about preventive medicine if we dont stay committed to eating healthy and keeping in shape... still doesn't make the question any less weird.

Just to add diversity to the class, I vow to be the middle-aged slightly chunky woman

Guess what? No one gives a damn how much weight you're carrying, be it too much OR to little. I don't even notice, and I'm pretty sure no one else in my class does either. The goal is to put your hands on as many body types as possible. In fact, the slightly chunky individuals are in high demand in our class. The majority of your future patients are going to be overweight, so you better start getting used to it. If you feel uncomfortable about your current size (or if it's unhealthy), by all means take some action...but don't do it because your afraid that your classmates will snicker at your love handles...they won't have time.

There are no bad reasons for getting in shape, and no good reasons not to

Do they make special arrangments for girls or is it like a coed OMM class? what if its againts your religion to be shirtless in front of guys?

Separate your view of being chubby as being out of shape~~~ You're in shape, TT; regardless of whether you have a bit of love handle chub bud, your a Triathlete... hell, that bit of fat you do have is probably beneficial to your swimming (the whole buoyancy issue)...

as far as my personal "getting in shape" for OMM?--- I'm chubby, but by no means am I not in shape... I run 2-4 miles/day, box/fight/oly-lift 2-3 hrs/day as well. But my Diet "timing" is horrid as hell (Not that I eat pizza all the time-- more along the lines that I eat at the wrong times during the day---once per day, usually before I go to bed...)
--If someone is disgusted by my bit of chub? they have MANY deeper issues they need to deal with~~~ As long As I don't care- no one else should either =P and if they do? I'll snatch their scrawny butts

I'd check with your individual school. We have a more conservative OMM dress code than some of the other schools out there. We can wear pretty much anything we want, but jeans/denim is strictly off limits. We're not required to remove our shirts. Girls usually leave shirts on but wear tank tops, halters, or scrubs. We usually bring sweaters or zip up sweat shirts that we put on when our partners don't need access to our backs. If you're a guy, your partner might request that you take your shirt off for a particular technique, but you have the right to refuse. There are a couple of Muslim females in our class who come to lab in full garb (headscarf, etc), they've NEVER been asked to remove anything, not even for practicals.

YES. I have the same problem as you. I drank wayyyy too much beer this summer.

I am actually starting a new diet and workout routine tomorrow to correct the problem. I don't expect it to take more than a month.

Ouch. I'll admit that I'm wholly disappointed in Mirko's last two performances, but I'm not a front-runner who is going to jump on a Gonzaga or Kongo bandwagon because they happened to win. Mirko has always had the problem of not really having his heart in the game. He's made it no secret fighting is a job, not really a passion. I still enjoy his performances (except the last two). I can't discount the years of entertainment he's given me from the Pride and K1 years (Mirko vs. Hunt, Mirko vs. Coleman, Mirko vs. Aleksander, etc.) because of some bad luck (and arrogance towards training in the cage).

BTW, I want to see Rampage-Silva Part Trois

Having been through PT school and had manual therapy, massage, as well as other techniques done on every part of my body, I can say it's no big deal. Come as you are. I'm only hoping DO's don't learn coccygeal manipulations. Thankfuly I've only seen pictures if that little maneuver.

OMM should be fun

When I had my interview at Nova the girls wear sports bras and gym shorts and the guys wear gym shorts for OMM. Im kinda looking forward to it 🙂

🙄 :barf: :barf: :barf::corny::corny:👎

Cheaper and quicker to just go to Mexico and drink the water.

But that's probably one of the most painful diets albeit highly effective
Summer of 1999: started out at 145 came back to the US 119....painful

Geez, what do you guys eat over there?
