Greetings!
I just got off the phone with the advisor for the Post Bacc program at Washington University in St. Louis, and I thought others here might appreciate the information.
This program is in its 4th year. They do not have exact data on the number of acceptances, but have placed students in medical programs at: Washington University
Drexel
Mt. Sinai
Emory
University of Missouri Columbia (MU)
and others that I failed to catch because she listed them too quickly 😉
She estimates that "most" students get accepted.
Price for evening courses varies depending on the level of the course (undergrad or Grad) and lab fees, from 515-730/hr. Day courses are ~1600/hr, regardless. Students are eligible for both day or evening courses.
For evening core courses (physics, biology, chemistry) the courses are held for Post bacc and degree students only, with limited open enrollment if spaces remain. For all other courses (upper level biology) availability is first come, first serve.
Courses #500 and above are considered graduate courses. Courses numbered 499 or lower are undergrad. Although this won't affect price, it will affect how you fill out your AMCAS.
You are considered a graduate student for federal aid purposes, but classes can count towards grad or undergrad depending on level and your situation. As graduate students, you need to take 4.5hrs for part-time or 9 hrs for full time, but you can take more. Students may live on or off campus.
An MCAT review session is available on campus, run by current Wash U medical/PhD students and teachers. Costs about 1-1.2k.
You have full access to all the advising and support services available to regular undergrad students at Wash U. There are additional advisors in the Post Bacc programs. Multiple classes/seminars/etc are held to assist with application prep, PS, mock interviews, etc. Also, students are able to use the "ArtSci" program to store letters of Req from teachers until application time. The program provides a cover letter but does NOT provide a committee letter at this time. The cover letter accompanies the packet of letters sent from the ArtSci database, and does include and evaluation of the student.
There is good collaboration between Wash U and the Barnes-Jewish hospital, to include a special lecture and shadowing credit course with a physician in the ER. Additionally, multiple work study posistions are available in the medical school (lab work and clinical trials).
Courses that you need to repeat (organic chem, eg) DO count towards the 30hr total needed for the certificate.
For applications, your motivation in medicine is very important to them.
I'll be applying, and I'll let you all know if I learn anything else.
Thanks,
Ambam
