G.P.A. Stats of ENtering freshmen

Hey I was wondering if anybody knew if the stats given by the dental schools (avg. G.P.A. of entering freshman) are the actual final overal gpa after graduating with a degree, or the gpa of students at the time of acceptance (junior standing)? If it's mostly people already finiished, than that would seem to bump up the gpa standards up even more, as people may not go all out in senior year after being accepted to schools.

Also wondering if the science portion of gpa is different from non bio majors vs. bio majors? like would normal bio classes from the major be counted toward science gpa? (gchem, ochem, physics, 1 yr bio)

Is it alright to have most of the above science gpa completed at the junior/community college?

I imagine that the GPAs reported are the GPAs of the students upon acceptance. ALL science class grades are used to calculate the science GPA, not just prereqs. So you are right that bio majors will most likely have more science classes calculated in the GPA. Most dental schools do not like when science prereqs are taken at community college. Some schools won't even look at these applications. There is more information in the forum about this topic and which schools even accept comm college science credits. You can search to find it. I think the GPAs they quote are actually the GPAs of the matriculating class, meaning final GPAs entering dental school. So you are right. When people are accepted initially, they have higher GPAs than when they matriculate.

I took all my pre-req at Community College and I have been accepted to 3 schools and was offered total of 9 interviews out of 14 schools I applied. I personally believe that CC credits are not bad and you have very good chance of getting in if you do really well when you transfer to university(GPA 3.5+). I would also, transfer to well known university that way schools know that you can handle the competition and you went to CC for different reason. Don't go to CC becasue you think that classes are easier. It is not a good reason to take pre-req at CC. Finanacial, family, personal etc. are some very good reasons people go to CC. I was asked on one interview about CC classes at Michigana and I was accepted there. However, if you can afford to go to University you should go. I had no choice. You may have hard time at some schools due to CC pre-req but you will have a chance of getting in as long as you can do well on last two years at university.
