gametophyte

"Thus, gametophyte reproduces sexually while sporophyte reproduces asexually."

or is it the other way?

Gametophyte reproduces sexually - it does mitosis and those haploid gametes from mitosis combine to form a diploid individual.

Sporophytes reproduce asexually - they are diploid - do meiosis and those haploid gametes become the gametophyte generation.

Alternation of generations - nice ring to it!

this is what i learnt: The gametophyte generation produces gametes by mitosis, where as, the sporophyte generation produces monoploid (N) spores by meiosis.

hope that helps 🙂
