gap year job advice

I am currently employed but am looking for a new job that pays more money because I'm unable to make it on my current salary. I am currently applying to one of my city's med schools. It is also the same school I got my graduate degree. I figured I would be ok if I looked for a job at another school in the city, but it turns out my grad school advisor is working in the same school and dept that the new job is in. She knows I'm applying to med school. I don't know if I should apply to this job. It sounds really interesting. And if I do, how should I handle it if I encounter my advisor? Thanks!
