Hey guys,

My question is how important is what you are doing during your gap year for med school admissions? So I just graduated college this past May and I am planning on taking two years off before medical school (so applying next fall) and currently I am in a gap year job that I don't really like but looking at it from an outsiders' perspective isn't that bad (overseeing clinical trials at a major hospital in NYC). Part of my dislike for the position comes from being involved in actual biological research all throughout college and not really doing any research now. Would med schools see that as a step down or will I gain anything more from working as like a research technician in a lab?

Sounds like you're quite unhappy, so you should switch to a basic sciences lab.

My belief is that the type of job isn't as important as what you take away from it, especially in the context of wanting to become a physician.
