Hey guys,
So i recently got a job with a doctor that I volunteer at a free clinic with. He said that I would be able to work with him as a scribe which got me really excited! I’ve been working for about a month and Well, his clinic manager first wants me to be trained in the front office, which I totally understand, but when I ask her when she thinks I’ll be able to work as the doctor’s scribe she doesn’t give me a definitive answer due to COVID and our rotating schedules in the clinic. I plan to apply next summer in 2021, so I really want to make my gap year worthwhile with good experiences but I feel like so far working as the receptionist isn’t beneficial and I’m not really enjoying the work environment. I do wanna continue there for a while though to potentially work as the scribe but I just don’t know when that’ll happen.

so basically, my question is when should I start looking for other jobs that can help me more for med school apps? I kinda feel like there’s no transparency of when I’ll be the scribe which is frustrating

Start looking now. Don't wait for someone to hand it to you. This is coming from someone who was promised a scribe job at a prestigious hospital but never got it because they didn't follow through at the end. Biggest waste of 2 months.

Yeah I probably should start looking for jobs! It’s just that I was promised I’d scribe but now I’m just doing a receptionist job which isn’t what I planned I just don’t know if quitting a job i had for 2-3 months would look bad on my medical school app
