Doesn't surprise me that these kids do more harm than good, especially the pre-med kind that just go there to pump up their EC.

I think this is a good reminder that those that do these should do so responsibly and with sensitivity to their environments. However, people should not be discouraged from doing short term trips (if done for the right reasons). Ultimately, it was a year long (short term) trip that rocked my world and directed me into committing my life to working in an underserved community and in the future I will encourage others to experience it for themselves to explore their own calling.

that was awesome. they should put that on a loudspeaker down at the occupy movement right now.. this is also a common criticism of americorps and teach for america.
