any words of wisdom regarding taking a gap year ie applying to md/phd programs in senior year?

Is there any disadvantage to doing so or is it looked upon badly by md/phd programs vs an applicant that applies straight out of undergrad? Although I hope my application is strong enough now, I feel it could be stronger if I wait until senior year to apply, Am hearing differing opinions from some professors

(Response based on some additional info from PM)

I think your application sounds very strong based on what you've told me, though it will depend on your MCAT. Remember my standard MCAT advice: do not take it if you have not had enough time to prepare while still acing your spring finals. It would not hurt you to push back your MCAT from March to June if necessary. I have a hard time interpreting your research experience, but from the sounds of it you have at least 2 years worth.

Gap years for research are almost never viewed unfavorably, and are typically viewed favorably. It can't hurt, I just don't know if it's really necessary in your case.
