hey friends
can anyone comment on the money and lifestyle of gas vs rads?
i'm not dumb - i know being happy is more important than how much you make - this is just curiousity
also everyone goes on and on about how great of a lifestyle rads is - from what i've seen (and i admit i'm just a med student) - the gas lifestyle can be pretty sweet too...
thanks!

I have had gas lots of times. It can be fun. I've never had rads though, so I can't help you there.

I've had rads. Not fun.

Now I never leave home without these:

rads is laid back and pretty stress free compared to the daily OR grind and close calls of anesthesia.

if you combine GAS and RADS you get

G RAD S

now that's pretty rad.

Radiologists tend to develop ass-drag, whereas Anesthesiologists tend to drag-ass...

i thought the point of this forum was to ask questions and get intelligent answers....or at least humorous ones

Really? Cuz I was laughing actually....

Radiology seems pretty fast paced but low key... slap "clinical correlation advised" whenever youre in a hurry... gas in PP also seems fast paced and sometimes straightforward but you throw in a wham! holy **** every now and then...

u like procedures?

future of both professions, as any specialty, seems up in the air...

personally, i want to pay off my heavy as **** debt ASAP... rads = 6 yrs with the whole new fellowship thingy they got goin on... gas = 4 yrs straight to pp altho who knows, maybe soon fellowships req in gas too?? both make good money... question is, how much is enough to u?

you will likely get paid more and work less in radiology than in anesthesiology.
you either like the little dark room or you don't.
you either like the OR or you don't.
do a month of each, or if thats not possible a weekend or whatever you can manage...they are really different and you can't tell which is better for you until you get a little hands on.

I was laughing. Come one, it's like your asking "What pays better, buying the Lotto 6-49 ticket or the Superball".

I mean come on, have you ever, EVER met a radiologist who passionately wanted a more hands on, patient oriented, CRITICALY CARE based job? I mean with blood, and body fluids, and surgeons and people potentially dying because of what you did or did not do?

2 different personality types.

We just get tired of posts from people apparently chasing money and the idea of a "cushy" specialty. And then NOT even searching the forum. I mean this has been addressed a million times before.

You want lifestyle and money go look at Rads and Derm and Optho.

You should have enough insight into your own personality, interests and goals to figure this out yourself. Anes vs ICU vs ER I can see as a relevant difficult decision. Anes vs Rads? Come on.

Rads is more competitive, easier lifestyle, and higher paying. Gas is still pretty good lifestyle, and is potentially higher paying (pain management), but you'll have to work more hours..
