Okay, for some reason this concept has always been tough for me: Please correct me where I am wrong or iif you have any suggestions of how to think of it (I have the GENERAL idea--sympathetic decreased digestion, and parasympathetic increased digestion)

Gastric emptying: refers to food leaving the stomach only. It is increased by parasympathetic N.S. and decreased by sympathetic nervous system

Gastric Motility: refers to the movement of food through the intestines. Here's one part that confuses me, I know parasympathetic increases parestalic movement (which intuitively makes me thing that the movement through the intestines would be faster); however, from a digestive point of few, isn't moving slower the intestines better because you'll have more time to absorb nutrients?

What all these in mind (especially gastric motility). Can someone try to explain this clearly?

increased Sympathetic stimulation: increases or decrease gastric motility? causes or doesn't cause diarrhea?

increased Parasympathetic stimulation: increases or decreases gastric motility? causes or doesn't cause diarrhea?

Motility in the small intestine doesn't really consist of peristalsis so much, really it's just alternating contraction and relaxation to mix the proto-poop around. This is really essential for absorption, otherwise only a small portion of the intestinal contents would get close enough to the mucosa to be absorbed. Peristalsis is much more prominent in the esophagus, stomach and large intestine.

effect of sympathetic on git, smooth muscle wall- relax,
sphincters- contract
screations n motility - decreases
parasympathetic does just the opposite.

Yes parasymp drug overdoses/side-effects cause diarrhea and symp drug overdoses cause constipation...and they are eachothers treatments.
