Hey Guys, I was wondering if any of you are participating in the Gateway to Dentistry Program at UMDNJ this coming January 3- January 14.

I am, so holla!!! 😀

I already did it back in January.. great program.. You'll love it!

I was there too! It was a great program. You should be able to say with confidence that you want to pursue dentsitry after doing Gateway.

i will be their this january

jayhov u got aim?

yea aim address is "crazyjigzit"

-edkNARF was going on?

I did the program last summer and its' REALLY great. You actually do hands-on activities, learn something about almost every specialty, and make good connections. Before it started, I wasn't so sure it was worth it to go to nj for 2 weeks, but afterwards i knew it definitely was.

well i live in ny so its ok. thanks for your opinion.

damn I just foudn out about this program and its already closed for the winter. I guess I will take it next semester. Any1 know what the price is for that program? I cant seem to find it anywhere?

It is free! I think they just added an application fee though. If they charged you $10,000 it would be totally worth it.

holy **** really? Thats awesome because I am at the point right now where I need to decide... Too bad the january program is closed already. Should I apply for the summer one already? Also since I just switched to dental major, do you think they will still except me even though I do not have any science classes with an exception of a C- in calc (freshman year), and an A- in Bio?

I think the most important thing is that you apply as soon as possilble. It is also a good idea to call them to make sure all your application materials are in on time. Don't worry about your grades, I had much worse grades in my past that those.

Also, You don't have to be a science major in order to apply.

great. Thanks everyone. Im going to apply for this summer session. Just a quick question however. One of the requirements is a letter of reccomendation from your pre-dental advisor. My school does not have one. Any idea as to what I should do?

I just asked a faculty member.

ok great thanks. Looks like Ill have to take a trip back to school this winter break. Thanks everyone you have all been an enormous help.

This sounds like a great program. I will have to apply for either summer or next year. Do you guys know if any other schools offer internships like this? Thanks dentist 2 be for your original post.

I've heard that one, maybe two, of the CA schools have a program similar to UMDNJs but I don’t think they are free or as in depth as the 2-week Gateway program.

By all means do this program! Even if you think you wouldn't like the school (even though UMDNJ is a great school), the program is worth its weight in gold. You learn an enormous amount about dentistry and more importantly about dental schools. After doing this program you will know hands-down if you want to pursue dentistry.

Apply early.. It fills up quickly from what I remember.

Best of luck to you.

i signed up for the program in May, iv also heard a lot of great things about it
