The electronic configuration of a
particular neutral atom is
1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p2. What is the number of
unpaired electrons in this atom?
This is #67 from the sample DAT on ADA website.
The answer is 3, I said 2.
The question asks how many unpaired electrons are in the atom so wouldnt that mean how many e- are by themselves? I wouldn't assume to count the empty p orbital....can someone explain this?
