hello guys-

I have questions about ionizatio energy, electron affinity, and EN.
I thought inert gus has the highest IE, EA and EN.
But there is a discripancy between my textbook and Kaplan.
One of the kaplan question says group 7 has the highest EN...

So which has the highest EN, group 17 or 18? 😕

its definitely group VII(the halogens) the halogens, are extremely electronegative especially flourine because it only needs 1more e- to complete its octet/outermost shell of electrons

VIII(the inert gases) are basically unreactive becuase they have their outer most valence shell full of electrons and are content with themselves....

Your textbook says that inert gases have the highest electronegativity? I doubt it would make that mistake.

Yup, my chem textbook says inert gas has the highest EN..
It even has the table showing specific figures.
But what about electron affinity? do halogens have
the highest EA because they need one more electron to become
inert gas?

By the way, did anybody see questions related to solubility rule on the real DAT?
(example, "which compound can dissolve in the aqueous solution?" or
net ionic questions)
