the following questions are from Barron test 1

1) what's the conversion factor between liter and grams for substances other than water? I came across a problem where i had to find the molarity of a substance in 5 grams of water, then later found out that 1L H2O=1gram H2O, but what about substances other than water??

2) how many atoms of carbon are in 4x10^-8 grams of C3H8?
a) 1.64x10^15
b) 2.34x10^11
c) 1.89x10^14
d) 4.66x10^2
e) 4x10^4
answer is E but i keep getting A, this is how i did it,what am i doing wrong?:

(4x10^-8gramsC3H8/44gramspermoleC3H8)(3mol C/1mol C3H8)(6.02x10^23atoms/1molC)= answer

3) an alloy contains atoms of
a) one element and has the properties of a metal
b) more than one element and has the properties of a nonmetal
c) one element and has the properties of a nonmetal
d) more than one element and has the properties of a metal
e) one element and has thae properties of a semiconductor

i know what an alloy is, it should be D, but why do they say the answer is A??

4) In which of the following are the atoms arranged by increasing atomic size?
a) Be<Na<Mg
b) Be<Mg<Na

i think it should be B according to the atomic radius trend and Mg has more protons than Na, therefore it should be smaller than Na, why is the right answer A?

5) If all of the chloride in a 5 gram sample of an unknown metal chloride is precipitated as AgCl with 70.9ml of .201 M AgNO3, what is the percentage of chloride in the sample?
the answer is none of the above so i want to know what's the right answer to see if i did it correctly

6) the attachment question: the answer is A, but how on earth can you choose A this is a rate law not equilibrium as it says in kaplan "the rate is proportional to the product of the concentrations of the reactants" not the products, so the answer should be anything but A, is there a mistake here?

please help me out I am totally stuck🙁
thanks alot

before you start sweating too much... the alloy question is wrong, it should be D. likewize for the atomic radius...i checked and Be -105 picometers, Mg 150, Na 180.....cheers

did i forget to mention that i really need your help, iam sure they're not that tough for u
they all seem like mistakes by barron, and I can't find anyother explanations even in my text

hey guys! i ventured into the pre-medical forum since i was bored...they have some pretty good info...

under mcat discussion they have a general chemistry topics w/ explanations...same with organic...it is a sticky... you should all check it out...i'm gonna print it out tomorrow..very good info with formulas and stuff

let me know what you think

Hey ld,
The sticky was really helpful!! Thanks for sharing it with us!! Never knew they had a mnemonic for the solubility rules..cool!!🙂
