Given a question like this:

Gel electrophoresis data shown below were obtained after chain-terminator DNA sequencing. What was the sequence of the DNA template?

It has a drawing of the gel with four columns; ddATP, ddCTP, ddGTP and ddTTP. How would I find the original sequence of the DNA? Is 5' on top or on bottom?

Do I just see where the gel is stained and let's say the highest stain is on ddATP, then next is on ddGTP, then next is ddGTP. Would it be as simple as AGG, etc?

I know this question doesn't ask it, but I'm also having trouble with understanding what the primer does. I know that if we're given a primer, we have to find it's complement in the DNA strand, but if I were asked to draw the corresponding gel product, I wouldn't be able to do it.
