Hi Current/Former GEMS:

I hope that you guys enjoyed your spring break. 🙂

I do have a quick question regarding the actual interview day. Do you guys have any role to play in the upcoming interviews such as participating in the meet-greet session or maybe interviewing candidates? Or is your role mostly a testimonial of your experiences in the program? Thanks!

You'll find out soon enough, no need to ruin the fun just yet. However, I can say that at the end of the interview day, to reinforce the whole family atmosphere theme of GEMS, you'll be in a room with all the current GEMS and former GEMS of all different years to answer any questions you may have.
 
Should I be fortunate enough to be granted an interview, I look forward to being able to thank some of you personally for the guidance and encouragement through this process. 🙂

Hi Current/Former GEMS:

I have another question about the notification process. I understand that some students will get invited to interview, but do they call those who are not invited as well or do they send some form of communication to them? Is not receiving the call itself, a rejection tool? Any ideas?

Thanks to Tweety, we now know that they have started making "the call". I just wanted to take the time to wish us all the very best. 🙂
 
I assure you this is no joke. Trust me it has been the silver lining in a bad week for me so I definitely wouldn't joke about it. Lol besides I'm not cognizant enough of the date or time to even come up with anything that clever. So unless GEMS was joking, the interview is legit. Best of luck to everyone!!

I appreciate the info and I know that everyone else must be psyched to know that we are off to the races. I think that this is the earliest yet for the calls that we've heard of based on the last few cycles. Good luck again and welcome to the thread !!! 🙂

when did you turned in your application and when was it completed? was it pretty early? thanks! im getting nervous/excited..

I just saw a missed call from Georgetown, they didn't leave a message. sooo excited, I hope they called to offer me an interview 🙂)))). Does anyone know if they will call back? I left them a message, I hope they call me again, I can't believe I missed this call...

They will definitely call you back. I'll consider that missed call an interview invite. If they don't, try calling them back tomorrow. Congrats xINAx !!! Way to go!!

Seems like it and it does make sense; once notified, applicants from far will have the opportunity to make travel arrangements in a timely and cost-friendly manner.

Dates are April 18 and May 2, I am going on April 18th. Hope to see some of you there 🙂

Former/Current GEMS:

Any suggestions for the interview? Is it similar to med school interview? Any tips would be helpful...

p.s.: Admission commitee doesn't want to be called, they say it slows them down. I want to wish good luck to everyone, and be patient, I am sure your call will come!!!

I also chose the 18th of April! have you looked at the rates of hotel in the area? its soooo expensive!!!

Lol! that's exactly what I've been doing all lunch break, very informative group 🙂! this is wayyy better than stalking my email like a fiend...which I've been doing religiously for the past week 😳
 
PS, I live in Maryland and work in DC! hopefully I get an interview! so if anyone from out of state needs a ride to the interview date and doesn't know anyone, I'm more than happy to help! Metro can get kind of weird. Trust me I know, I'm a native.
 
I submitted my app on the first day possible. It was completed some time in that first week. The day I chose was May 2, hope to see you there🙂

Also, don't want to say too much but I am a reapplicant for the GEMS program. I got as far as the interview day last time. Not sure what is allowed to be said regarding that, but I will say it's best to plan your flight for the following day because there is a lot that goes on the interview day and it's best to keep focused on getting the full experience and not making it to the airport

How was the trend for calls when you first applied to the program. Approximately how long until they stopped calling people (if you remember)?
 
and now the anxiety builds. i do not get phone service at my job, so when i left the office i had a missed call. though it was them, but it was not (my heart was racing!) besides, i am on the east coast and looks like they are beginning w/ west coast folks. best wishes to everyone so far who have received a call and wishing more phone calls for the rest of us soon:laugh:
 
I almost don't want to go to lecture...just so I don't risk the chance of missing this potential call. Perhaps staring at the phone all lecture will suffice. :laugh:

OK now I am really biting my nails. I have put my ringer on the highest tone possible so I do not miss this call! Best of luck to everyone on this forum! It is great to have this network especially during this important time.
