Hi,

I was wondering if I could just skip gen bio 2 and use cell bio instead to fulfill the 1 year bio requirement.

I only have 3 semesters of under grad left and I don't want to take it if I don't have to.

I also hear that cell bio will help with Mcat that is why I was leaning towards it.

isn't gen bio a prerequ for that?

Yeah... I think you have to take Gen Bio since it's a prereq class. Just take it. I love cell biology, but unfortunately it's not tested over too much on the MCAT. Physiology helps the most for MCAT.

This depends on how your school is set up. My school has "Cell and Molecular Biology" class in lieu of General Bio 2, meaning they literally do not offer General Bio 2 and expect bio majors to take CMB instead for their first year requirement.

No Gen 2 is not a requirement for Cell Bio at my university.

Cell bio however, is a pre-req for Genetics and Mammalia Physiology.

Which i am interested in taking.

what level is cell bio at your school... at my it is 4000 and gen bio is the prereq for most of the other bio classes.

If it a 1000/2000 probably it is the same as an intro to bio

Cell Biology is 301 so i guess 3000 ?

Gen Bio 1 = 201
Gen Bio 2 = 202

I think you need to take bio 2 it a requirement for me school.

You should really not be asking this on SDN since every school has different prereqs and majors; rather, go to your adviser (or prehealth director, or even just one of your teachers), and tell them about your dilemma.

Best of luck! 🙂

Good call! If they think your plan will work, then you should also check with the MS you plan to apply to in order to verify that they will accept Cell Bio in lieu of Gen Bio II. Also, if you can take physiology you will be golden for MCAT.

Isn't Gen Bio II Zoology?

If so, take Gen Bio I and Cell Bio.

My school doesn't even offer a Gen Bio II. They just offer Gen Bio and Cell Bio and then Genetics.

Cell Bio, from what I understand, is tested heavily on the MCAT.

You can skip Gen Bio II if you're not a bio major.

Nope i am Econ major..

From what i heard from other students, Gen bio 2 at my school is mostly plants and animal related.

Most schools i am looking to apply at only say '8 Smster hours of Biology'
but i will email some of them just incase.

Depends how your school is set up. My school is first semester "Organismal Biology," which is animals and plants. Then it's "Cell and Molecular Biology." Most other schools study cells first and then plants/animals.

Yeah you are right. At my school gen bio 1 was mostly about cells
