Is this recommended? I am considering taking it during the summer (6 week course) to alleviate part of the heavy load I will have come fall semester (since I changed my major as a Junior). I figure the class goes by pretty fast with regards to material. Is it difficult to keep up?

I personally felt gen bio 2 was all over the place: genetics, neurobiology, cardiovascular system, immune system and respiratory system among other things.

Based off my experiences, I think it should be manageable during the summer.

Is it the only course you're taking?

Pretty much. Bio and an Introduction to Special Education course for my primary major.

In my opinion, you should talk with a few students on your campus about the course; how the course is taught varies from each school. But I do not think you should have any trouble managing it with your other course.

I took gen bio 2 over the summer and I really didn't think it was that bad, it's definitely manageable. Actually, bio is the course I would recommend to be taken in the summer because it's just straight up memorization.

ecology, botany, animal phylogeny and behavior, a little bit of A&P; took it over the summer in four weeks. it was very straightforward, got an A. i was working ~12 hours a week, too.

taking summer courses here was a double bonus in that the classes were smaller and you got a tuition break. I say go for it.

Yeah Gen. Bio II isn't that bad, you should be fine. For us, it was just a lot of annoying busywork, but if you're taking it during the summer by itself, it should be a breeze.

I'm with you but taking it this summer in a 5 week session. My plan is start reading the material a week before the class or at least get a few chapters read before class starts. That way the initial rush will be more manageable. Where I'm at, some students tell me Bio II is easier than Bio I. We'll see. Good luck!

Don't forget to check with ratemyprofessor.com especially for classes like these that are not yet major specific and tend to have more sections/professors available, if you are lucky.

It would depend on what Gen Bio II covers at your school. At my school we don't have courses called Gen Bio I or Gen Bio II. Instead we have cell and molecular and cellular biology and genetics respectively.

I took it over the summer. Biology 2 was evolution and ecology at my school and I personally found the concepts extremely interesting, so I did very well in it. If you find evolution, phylogeny, and overall non-cellular biology fun, then you'll probably be fine.

I think I am going to hold off for the summer. I talked to the professor and apparently there are only 2 total tests, which are the midterm and the final. Seems like the odds could be against me. 😕

Not necessarily. It would depend on the format of the test, the quality and quantity of the questions, how the professor or the TA grades the tests, your own studying and note taking skills, and how well you perform on exams amongst other things.

No don't give up!! Bio is probably the easiest prereq class to take in the summer and remember since its only 5 weeks or so the midterm and final will have all the material covered pretty soon before the test unlike when you have to take a midterm 6 weeks into the regular semester.

YOU CAN DO IT!!
